“I’ve been a member of the Voices community since 2021. I came across it whilst seeking other volunteer roles with Breast Cancer Now after a great experience as a patient advocate on the Service Pledge. “Volunteering with Voices is fun and never boring. Some of the current projects I’m really excited to be part of are all EDI-related, including joining the Improving Public Health, Equity and Wellbeing funding committee as a patient representative and projects to improve volunteer diversity and service inclusivity. “Collaborating on a diverse range of internal and external activities balances nicely alongside my work and personal commitments, and it’s empowering to be able to flex my time with Voices based on whatever else I have going on at that time.” - Anjli, a Breast Cancer Voice, talks about what it means to her. #CoProWeek is a chance for us to celebrate why working with people affected by breast cancer is so important. It has a positive impact, both for what we do, and the people who get involved in us. https://lnkd.in/ekE4rimR

✨️ How exciting to join an innovative group of servant leaders! I am looking forward to continuing to build community relationships, adding the promotion of the American Cancer Society's Cancer Action Network. ⚖️ The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) advocates for evidence-based public policies to reduce the cancer burden for everyone. ACS CAN engages volunteers across the country to make their voices heard by policymakers at every level of government. They believe everyone should have a fair and just opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer. 🧠 Since 2001, as the American Cancer Society’s nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate, ACS CAN has successfully advocated for billions of dollars in cancer research funding, expanded access to quality affordable health care, and advanced proven tobacco control measures. 💗 ACS CAN stands with volunteers—people whose lives have been impacted by cancer—rallying to demand change. Together, we’re working to make cancer a top priority for public officials and candidates at the federal, state, and local levels. By engaging advocates across the country to make their voices heard, ACS CAN influences legislative and regulatory solutions that will end cancer as we know it, for everyone. ➡️ For more information visit, https://lnkd.in/eeXhGssT #drchalice #mentalhealthaction #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthsupport #breastcancersurvivor #breastcancersupport #breastcanceraction #breastcancerawareness #breastcancerhealthdisparities #christiancounseling #clinicaltraumacounselor

I witness the incredible strength and resilience of children fighting cancer every day. They inspire me with their courage and remind me why I dedicate my life to this field. But the truth is, despite amazing progress, children with cancer still face immense challenges. Especially in LMICs- low and middle-income countries unequal access to diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care creates a devastating survival gap. This gap is unacceptable. This year's ICCD theme, Unveiling Challenges, Inspiring Action, calls on all of us doctors, researchers, advocates, and most importantly, the community to come together. We must unveil the challenges, from diagnosis delays to limited treatment options, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Inspiring action means advocating for increased funding, research into better therapies, and ensuring every child, no matter where they live, has access to the care they deserve. Here's how you can make a difference: 👉🏾Share your story: Use your platform to raise awareness about childhood cancer and the disparities in care. 👉🏾Donate to organizations: Support research and advocacy groups fighting for better outcomes for children with cancer. 👉🏾Talk to your elected officials: Advocate for policies that improve access to treatment and care. 👉🏾Volunteer your time: Donate your skills or time to organizations supporting children with cancer and their families. Let's join hands and make a world where every child has the chance to fight cancer and thrive. #ICCD2024 #TogetherWeFight #PediatricCancer #Hope

In celebration of women worldwide, their contributions to community development, and their resilience, Community Podium hosted a conversation with breast cancer survivor Esnath Manyau on the radio show “Ilihlo Lemaphandleni” on Skyz Metro FM. Esnath shared her journey, the challenges she faced, and strategies that communities can employ in the fight against cancer. Here are some important takeaways from the conversation: Trust Your Instincts: You are your best doctor. When you start feeling or witnessing any unusual pain in your body, don’t hesitate—visit the hospital promptly. Early Check-Ups Matter: Don’t wait until you’re sick. Undergo regular check-ups to detect and start treatment early in case of any arising conditions. Seek Reliable Information: Be cautious about information and advice from friends and family, as it can sometimes be misleading. Always seek accurate information from your nearest healthcare center. Second Opinions: If in doubt, seek a second opinion from other healthcare practitioners. On International Childhood Cancer Day, Foundation S joins with the global community to raise awareness of childhood cancer and reflect on the progress and impact of our My Child Matters program, which is dedicated to fighting childhood cancer around the globe. In the past year we have seen tremendous progress with the expansion of our projects across low and middle-income countries. These initiatives address the needs in children with cancer care, family support and healthcare strengthening. Recognizing the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing, we are pleased with the progress of our My Child Matters Open Data Platform, a tool that fosters the exchange of ideas, outcomes and best-practices from our projects around the globe. We also realize the quality care for those children facing cancer does not only mean access to therapy. It is more holistic. Our Home Away From Home initiative with Childhood Cancer International and Foundation S addresses non-medical barriers to treatment. By providing a safe place for families, we directly tackle the leading cause of treatment abandonment, ensuring that children have the best chance at survival and a quality life post-treatment. We are committed to helping address the care gap that many children and their families face, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
