PT | Reflexões da exposição Que mar se vê afinal da minha língua? #BABEL #artecontemporânea #arquitetura #ambiente EN | Reflections of the exhibition What ocean can we see from our language? "We must avoid at all costs falling into the error that would be, and probably will be tragic, of considering ourselves within a purely local perspective, of this quadrilateral on the edge of the Atlantic. That's not what we are. We are a culture that has spread across the world, that has had an experience and that in that way of spreading across the world has revealed itself. If we don't take this into account, we're heading for our own suicide and, at that point, Portuguese culture will survive in many parts of the world except Portugal. Which may well be the case." - António José Saraiva, historian of Portuguese literature and culture #BABEL #contemporaryart #architecture #environment

ART-CHITECTURE The Extensible Spatial Metaphor EYECANDIES @eyecandiescn × Kui Yuan Gallery @kuiyuangallery , Shanghai, China 16 Dec 2023 - 14 Jan 2024 Departing from the explorations of the aforementioned possibilities, the exhibition comprises three parts of intermediaries with limited materiality, including paintings, drawings, and images, serving as abstract representational symbols associated with intellectual concepts, also inviting a re-examination of the connections and distinctions in creative and experiential approaches between art exhibits and architectural exhibits in a universal cognitive sense through juxtapositions and contrasts. At the same time, widening the limitations of the existing display and storage patterns through the appropriation of transport devices, the exhibition then introduces a discourse on solidified carriers and extended transplantations, which also faithfully mirrors the analogous architectural thinking framework, endeavors not only to dematerialize the creation of spaces but also to further become a nexus between reality and non-reality, exploring and advancing the balance between authenticity and fictional imagination, ultimately revealing the extended spatial metaphor. 📷 The Extensible [2] #JXYStudio #culture #art #architecture #exhibition https://lnkd.in/gePb94Si

Architect, editor, content curator and researcher engaged in the dissemination of contemporary architecture and urbanism.
Although the 18th Venice Biennale of Architecture is coming to an end, some curatorial proposals will have an impact beyond their ephemerality. It’s the case of ‘Terra’, the Brazilian Representation by Gabriela de Matos and Paulo Tavares, which sees architecture as a way of advocacy and uses curatorship as a vehicle to deliver its message. The proposal, which received the Golden Lion for Best National Participation, responds to this year topic by putting upfront the contributions of African-Brazilian and indigenous communities to the architectural and territorial knowledge. It showcases the untold stories of the construction of Brasilia by decolonising hegemonic history and celebrates ancestral spatial practices as archaeologies of the future from which we can take lessons to decarbonise the world. Watch Gabriela and Paulo talk about ‘Terra’ on urbanNext https://lnkd.in/d4jepFSi Interviews by Marta Bugés and Ricardo Devesa Devesa. Filmed by Gloria Maria Schönburg. Edited by Marta Bugés. ART-CHITECTURE The Extensible Spatial Metaphor EYECANDIES @eyecandiescn × Kui Yuan Gallery @kuiyuangallery , Shanghai, China 16 Dec 2023 - 14 Jan 2024 Revisiting the expressive potential and interpretative possibilities of architectural thinking, as a system with the capability of directing artistic and intellectual practices, it may extend beyond the material construction in a traditional sense and could explore broader multimedia realms to establish direct connections between notions and reality, also between visual representations and narratives of conceptual thinking, thereby directly generating expressions. This allows for the ideologies derived from it to react dynamically, rather than merely as a priori theoretical self-consistency, and may even potentially be stimulated and amplified by the creative thinking outputs themselves. Thus, the imaginative capacity of artistic expression metaphorically signifies the content of imagination, and such transference or interpretation need not point to external materiality but shifts the focus to internal imagination only through the experiences gained from external practices. #JXYStudio #culture #art #architecture #exhibition https://lnkd.in/g26RCvab

MAAT‘s 2024 annual programme Ernesto Neto, Vivan Suter, William Klein, Nicolas Floc’h, Antony McCall, Daniel Blaufuks, Luísa Jacinto, Catarina Dias, Três Moscas (André Maranha, Francisco Tropa, Jorge Queiroz and Pedro Morais) and Manicómio. It is a diverse and eclectic programme that aims to strengthen MAAT as an institution that promotes encounters, dialogues and fruitful declinations in the relationship between artistic practice and the complex realities of our time, but also as a place of articulation between different geographies and domains of the cultural spectrum (…) In this sense, ecological phenomena or the circumstances of our relationship with nature should be highlighted, as well as the attention to other socio-cultural, spiritual, and mental imaginaries, also understood within a framework of critical discourse in relation to the historical paradigms of Western art, as themes that will be evoked or explicitly addressed in several of the exhibitions and public programmes. MAAT will continue to address the themes of mental health, well-being and caring (…) https://lnkd.in/dq9W3MaJ https://lnkd.in/dZ9rAJCp https://lnkd.in/d8nf4FFb

Spatial Metaphor as Methodology Kui Yuan Gallery @kuiyuangallery, Guangzhou, China 10 Jun - 9 JUL 2023 Part I | The Architectonic Blueprint of Art Part I, serving as a manifesto, an idealistic possibility, provides a series of comprehensive examples and attempts to raise questions: under the nourishment of the economic environment behind the local contemporary architecture, while also the constraints imposed by the social development stages that it simultaneously faces, what powerful yet inclusive, spatial and relational approaches could architectonic thinking showcase, and what diversified yet integrated, creative methods could it provide for the art field constructed based on its blueprint? In this part, experimental architectural explorations and research into representation forms are introduced as a departure point for understanding and perceiving spatial creative thinking, which further progresses towards abstract forms spatialized and structured through various digital media, and ultimately derives purely subjective and expressive visual imagery representation installation based on spaces, relations, architecture, and metaphors. #JXYStudio #culture #art #architecture #exhibition https://lnkd.in/gv27FXms

Transnatural's Well Proven stools are part of the MoMA exhibition Life Cycles till July 7th, 2024. Organized by Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator, and Maya Ellerkmann, Curatorial Assistant. The stools are designed by Marjan van Aubel and James Shaw (and part of the permanent collection as well). The show's statement: "Any act of good design must also be an act of empathy, respect, and responsibility toward all living organisms and ecosystems––as well as future generations. By translating scientific, technological, and social revolutions into objects and behaviors, design can be an agent of positive change and play a crucial part in restoring the fragile ties between humans and the rest of nature. Life Cycles: The Materials of Contemporary Design explores the regenerative power of design as it shifts its focus towards a more collaborative rapport with the natural world. The objects in this exhibition highlight the entire life cycle of the materials they are made of. From extraction to reuse or disposal, designers are exploring new ways––sometimes drawn from old traditions––to enlist materials in their efforts to bring ecosystems into balance." #wellprovenstools #wellprovenchair #marjanvanaubel #jamesshaw #transnautral #transnaturallabel #bioresin #recyclingwaste #MoMA @themuseumofmodernart

I have recently published two articles. The first one is an exhibition review for "Beyond: Tadao Ando and Art" at Curator: The Museum Journal. In this paper, I tried to explore whether an exhibition about a well-known architect is a challenge or opportunity. This exhibition at HEM was certainly pleasant but also reveals that big name's exhibition is quite tricky. The other one is about Chinese rural revitalization through art at International Journal of Arts Management. This interesting case study of Qingtian reveals a different project approach, which contains a well-balanced stakeholder management. The entire community and its relationship to the arts is continuously observed. #TadaoAndo #ArchitectureExhibition #Qingtian #RuralDevelopment https://lnkd.in/gK2BFgAD https://lnkd.in/gEjcHvSZ
