Our SAGE member and co-founder Brisa De Angulo represented Brave Latin America at the UN 30th anniversary of the Belem do Para Convention. This was the 1st legally binding international treaty that criminalizes all forms of violence against women, especially sexual violence.
Bravo Brisa for being brave so that children can be safe! 🤝

Today, we unite on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls.
This year's theme - "Invest to Prevent Violence against Women & Girls" - emphasizes the critical need to allocate resources to various prevention initiatives that aim to stop violence from happening in the first place.
Let's declare together that Sexual and Gender-Based Violence is not a norm but a gross violation of human rights.

LET’S TALK: In January, the Government launched the Commonwealth Consent Policy Framework to eradicate domestic, family, and sexual violence against women and children. Several advocates, including Chanel Contos, the author of “Consent Laid Bare,” provided input into the framework, underscoring the importance of consent messaging that resonates with younger Australians.
👉 Will it change how we perceive and discuss consent in Australia? Alex Russell, Senior Digital Strategist at Ruby Assembly, delves into the details of the new framework and its potential impact in a compelling piece on our blog. Around the world, sexual violence laws are failing survivors. From proof of force requirements to discriminatory evidentiary burdens and permitting marital rape to statutes of limitations that place a time limit within which victims can get justice, laws pertaining to sexual violence – especially rape – frequently blame survivors for their own abuse and perpetuate the cycle of harm.
In order to end sexual violence, laws that stigmatize victims and hinder the possibility for justice and accountability must be replaced by laws that reflect the true nature of sexual violence, exclude negative stereotypes and myths, and are informed by the experiences of survivors.

It's day 4 of our 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, our focus intensifies on breaking the culture of silence surrounding sexual abuse.
Sexual abuse is a gross violation of women's human rights and dignity.
It is crucial that we collectively raise our voices and encourage open dialogue, dismantling the barriers that hinder women and girls from reporting or speaking out against sexual violence.
It is only by fostering a safe atmosphere that we can empower and protect our girls, ensuring they are heard and supported in their journey towards justice and healing.

CW: mention of gender-based violence
Today is the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women, and it always hits close to home for me. As a survivor of intimate partner violence and domestic abuse, we have so much more to do to create safer spaces for women, especially Indigenous women like myself.
Creating dialogues about these experiences and the many factors that contribute to them including systemic racism, colonial violence, ongoing assimilation and gender-based violence, can foster a deeper sense of understanding for the community and survivors themselves.
If you’re looking for ways to help or somewhere to start, education via the many resources NWAC will be sharing is a wonderful first step. I urge you to consider the complex dynamic that exists between violence and colonialism; where does one end and the other begin?
Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Violence against women and girls remains one of the most widespread human rights violations in the world. For Indigenous #WGT2SGD people, violence is even more prevalent.
Indigenous women and girls who live in Canada are six times more likely than non-Indigenous women to be victims of homicide. They're also three times more likely to experience violence and sexual assault.
This year we’re participating in #16DaysOfActivism Against Gender-Based Violence, from today until International Human Rights Day on December 10. Stay tuned for resources, toolkits, and more, to help prevent gender-based violence in Indigenous communities.
