Three years after its end, the European research project #Zelcor (“Zero Waste Ligno-Cellulosic Biorefineries by Integrated Lignin Valorisation”) continues to bear fruit with its last open access publication on technical lignins' safety. This paper results from a collaboration between Institut National de l'Environnement Industriel et des Risques (INERIS, France), # Wageningen Food and Biobased Research (WFBR, The Netherlands), BEES Design (Italy), Avantium Chemicals B.V. (The Netherlands), and Université Paris-Saclay, INRAE, AgroParisTech, Institute Jean-Pierre Bourgin for Plant Sciences (IJPB).   Many thanks to all the co-authors and more particularly the INERIS team Guy MARLAIR, Thangavelu JAYABALAN, Pascal PANDARD, Binotto Ghislain, Julien Gomes, Xavier Ceschini, Aurélie AUBE who performed the safety tests and led the paper publication. CARBIOW project is glad to announce that a second #research article has been published!! Entitled 'Wet torrefaction of biomass waste into levulinic acid and high-quality hydrochar using H-beta zeolite catalyst', it is featured in Elsevier's 'Cleaner Production Journal', and is available as #OpenAccess. Written by Andrii Kostyniuk and Blaž Likozar, from Kemijski inštitut - National Institute of Chemistry, it explores wet torrefaction (WT) as an effective pretreatment method of #biomass waste for producing high-quality #hydrochar and valuable liquid products. "The findings reveal that WT conditions, including the catalyst for WCPR, significantly influence the hydrochar’s properties and liquid product distribution. With increasing temperature and reaction time, the hydrochar experiences changes, including increased carbon content and reduced oxygen content", states the article. The #JournalOfCleanerProduction is a prestigious international, transdisciplinary journal focused on Cleaner Production, Environmental, and Sustainability research and practice that aims at helping societies become more sustainable.
