After a memorable journey at Solvay, where I had the honor to be in charge of the separation of this 160-year Group in two incredible champions, Solvay and Syensqo, I am energized and excited to take on the new role of President of the Oil & Gas Business Unit at Syensqo. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a division with more than 700 talents, in an industry that is in full mutation. The DNA of Syensqo was ignited from the 1911 Solvay conference, where science and collective intelligence were celebrated by 24 brilliant minds, with a mixture of sagacity and humanism - because that was precisely all about this: putting science at the service of humanity. This heritage of ultimate excellence could represent a weight when you think about the stature of Marie Curie or Paul Langevin. But in fact it represents a unique foundation on which we will build on, a foundation that will boost our ambition of innovation and progress. I want to carry this spirit within Syensqo Oil & Gas Solutions. Because Research & Innovation will be at the heart of our DNA with 8 research centers in 3 continents. Because the portfolio of this Business Unit is one of the best among competitors to address critical sustainability-linked needs and challenges in the industry. Because enabling our customers to reduce their water use has always been close to my heart, particularly since my time at SUEZ and our solutions are pioneering in this area. I have had the chance in my career in mergers and acquisitions to face challenges in sectors undergoing transformations, to act in a context of ‘permanent impermanence’ with the certainty that challenges could only be tackled surrounded by united and talented women and men, obsessed by excellence for customers. As a father of 3 children, I also want to grasp this opportunity to contribute, at my modest scale, to build a world where differences are driving success, where diversity and inclusion are embedded at the core of our culture. Takeaways from EPCA'23 Vienna (current market challenges and future road map) Vienna was a lovely & sunny place for EPCA this year. We had open discussions with our clients about their current challenges like declining demand, managing complex spend & keeping + growing knowledge within their organizations. And nevertheless also talking about the 3-5 years strategies ahead. We are convinced that data will be one of the major future differentiators in chemical sourcing to be on top of the competition. Therefore we have decided we don’t want to wait 3-5 years.
