Our partnership spans 7 European and 1 Asian countries, encompassing industrial, research, and academic dedicated to driving positive environmental impact through advanced technology of a recycling process. The project engages key stakeholders and the Stakeholder Advisory Board (SAB) in the value chain to ensure the exploitation of the key project outcomes and ensure the sustainability of the project. MoQuP-R to explore quality monitoring along the plastic recycling chain The Dutch National Growth Fund programme Circular Plastics NL has granted a subsidy of 1.9 million euro to cofinance the 2.6 million euro research project Monitoring Quality in Plastic Recycling (MoQuP-R). The project consortium consists of the circular plastic research institute Nationaal Testcentrum Circulaire Plastics, Maastricht University, TNO, LyondellBasell, Danone, Graham Packaging International, and Verpact. The project will run for three years from September 2024. Plastic packaging recycling goals have not received focus on recyclate quality which is partly due to the way recycling rates have been calculated until 2022: any material stream coming out of a plastic sorting plant is considered recycled independent of the actual subsequent recycling process. This is now slowly changing with measuring the so-called washed and dried flake but is still far from complete and definitely not yet suitable for PCR quality prediction. In this project, we focus on the necessary quality monitoring tools and the application of existing models related to the prediction of recyclate quality in order to increase the use of PCR in packaging. An integral approach should allow adjustment along the circular value chain to improve PCR quality. Taranis' €10 million investment in Pryme, a chemical plastics recycling company, signifies a strong commitment to advancing sustainability in the plastics industry. Emmanuel Colombel, CEO of Taranis Investment, emphasized the importance of supporting growth companies like Pryme in the plastics recycling sector. He praised Pryme's optimization of the pyrolysis process, highlighting its potential to address hard-to-recycle plastic waste streams effectively. Hervé anticipated that Taranis' involvement would help further develop Pryme into a significant player in advanced recycling. However, challenges remain in the chemical recycling sector, as noted by Mark Victory, senior editor of recycling at ICIS. He pointed out the uncertainty in EU regulations, which creates hurdles for investment and sector involvement. Clearer legislation could attract more investment but might also draw criticism from NGOs. On a positive note, the EU's Just Transition Fund recently awarded €5 million to Itero Technologies for its chemical recycling demonstration plant at Brightlands Chemelot Campus. This plant is expected to process 27,000 tons of waste plastics annually and divert over 20,000 tons of fossil resources within the same timeframe. Overall, Taranis' investment in Pryme reflects a growing interest in sustainable solutions for plastic waste management, despite regulatory uncertainties in the EU. The main advantage of steam plasma reactors is that there is no nitrogen in the steam plasma, the plasma reactor, the gasifier and the plasma afterburner chamber, so there is no nitrogen oxides is 40 times more toxic CO, minimum carbon dioxid and odorless the flue gas. The hydrogen introduced into the reaction space with the steam plasma slows down the reactions of gaseous sulphur, phosphorus and free chlorine formation to remove in the gas purification unit. When reacting with chlorine-containing substances, water vapor plasma does not produce dioxin, which is one of the most toxic substances.
