If you just watched the football match between Brazil and the USA, did you know that you just witnessed an example of Augmented Reality (#AR) technology in action? Here’s how it’s done: 1. Real-Time Advertising Insertion: Using AR technology, broadcasters can insert virtual ads directly into the live video feed. These ads appear as though they are physically present on the field such as the pitch perimeter, stands, or even on the field itself. 2. Targeted Advertising: Virtual ads can be adapted for different regions. For example, viewers in one country might see an ad for a local product, while viewers in another country see a different advertisement, even though they are watching the same match. Here in Brazil we could see some sport bet ads, at same time viewers in the USA watched Volkswagen and other advertisers. 3. Dynamic Content: The ads can be dynamic, changing throughout the match. This means different ads can be displayed at various points during the game, with dynamic content if applicable. 4. Seamless Integration: Advanced AR technology ensures that the virtual ads are seamlessly integrated into the broadcast. They are designed to appear natural, with correct lighting and perspective adjustments to match the live footage, making them look like part of the stadium environment. You barely notice that the footballers running in front of the ads are basically “chroma keyed” to show the dynamic ad behind themselves. Interesting, no? I’ve noticed it some months ago but was intrigued about how it would be done. This is a real world application of AR and it’s so seamless that you barely notice! Want to know more? See it in action:
