As Memorial Day comes around, it's good to remember what the day is really about. It’s not just the start of summer or a time for big sales. This is a day to honor the brave men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military. Their sacrifices are why we get to enjoy so many freedoms every day. So, how can we keep the spirit of Memorial Day alive in our everyday lives? It can be as simple as taking a quiet moment to think about those who gave their lives, doing something to help someone in need, or just saying thanks to someone who’s served. These little things mean a lot and help us keep their memories alive. Memorial Day also encourages us to be like those we're remembering—selfless and brave. We can do that by helping out in our community, standing up for what's right or making a move for our future that we were afraid to do. This short video never fails to send shivers down my spine… There are nearly 2 million living women veterans in the United States… Women currently make up approximately 10% of the overall veteran population… Veterans make up 14% of the men in America…but among women in America, only 1.5% are veterans. ➡️ In order to meet 1 woman veteran, you may have to meet 69 women. ➡️ To meet just one woman under age 35 who has served in the military, you may have to meet 102 women of that age group. ➡️ The median age of male veterans is 65 years, while the median age of women veterans is 51 years, a difference of 14 years. #veteran #military #veteransday #women #airforce #navy #marines #army #spaceforce #coastguard #nationaldefense #leadership #empowerment

Officer Spotlight! 🌟 Officer Nguyen immigrated to the United States from Vietnam when he was a young boy. He followed in his father's footsteps by joining the military, and eventually went on to serve the public as a peace officer. Officer Nguyen joined APD in 2020 and is part of our Recruiting Unit. His story involves much more than these few words, so we wanted to highlight his background and career here at APD during our last day of Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month.
