🧠 Neurons and Pericytes: A Surprising Memory-Making Duo! New research reveals that neurons aren't alone in memory formation; they have a vital partner—pericytes, blood-vessel-making cells. This collaboration could reshape our understanding of memory and diseases like Alzheimer's. The study conducted by Kiran Pandey et al. focuses on insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2), showing that pericytes in the hippocampus produce it, triggered by nearby neurons. When pericytes don't produce IGF2, long-term memory formation suffers. This discovery may shed light on diseases linked to memory loss, like Alzheimer's. More research, especially in humans, is needed, but it's an exciting step forward in neuroscience.
