On the heals of my post yesterday on "Microsoft and World Energy, LLC signing their Landmark 10-year book-and claim SAF deal - Why This is Such a Great Thing for Greenwood Renewable Ventures (GRV)," World Energy, LLC announced another strategic 7-year book-and-claim agreement with DHL Express for nearly 175 million gallons of SAF. "Bonn/Germany, Boston/USA, October 19, 2023: DHL Express and World Energy, a leading SAF producer and low-carbon solutions provider, have signed a long-term strategic agreement to accelerate the decarbonization of aviation logistics through the purchase of approx. 668 million liters of Sustainable Aviation Fuel via sustainable aviation fuel certificates (SAFc). The seven-year contract, to run through 2030, is the one of the longest and largest SAFc agreements in the aviation industry to date. The agreement is expected to reduce approx. 1.7 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over the aviation fuel lifecycle – this is equivalent to handling the approximately 77,000 annual aircraft movements of DHL Express in the Americas carbon neutrally for a full year. The milestone agreement is further testament to DHL Group’s ambitious Sustainability Roadmap, which includes the goal to reduce the Group's annual greenhouse gas emissions to below 29 million tonnes CO2e in 2030 across scopes 1, 2 and 3." Greenwood Renewable Ventures (GRV) is developing its first bioenergy project in North Dakota. Phase 1 buildout of GRV’s proposed facility will generate over 21 MMGY of low-carbon fuel ethanol and 1,000,000 MMBtu of cellulosic RNG. The low CI fuel ethanol can be further processed to SAF utilizing alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) technology. Phase 2 of this project will result in an increase of low-carbon fuel ethanol to 54-65 MMGY and 2.25-2.75 MMMBtu of cellulosic RNG. We’ve taken a major step in expanding the availability of Neste’s renewable fuels in the Southern Californian region in cooperation with Vopak, enabling greenhouse gas emissions reductions from the transportation sector and supporting the energy transition on the West Coast of the US. Neste commissioned terminal capacity at Vopak's Los Angeles terminal in California for storing sustainable aviation fuel (#SAF) and renewable diesel. This will significantly increase the availability and accessibility of Neste's renewable fuels for customers at critical hubs in the Los Angeles area, such as SAF for airlines at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), one of the world’s largest airports, and renewable diesel (also locally known as R99) for fueling stations for road transportation all the way to San Diego. “Our cooperation with Vopak shows how repurposing existing fuel distribution infrastructure can accelerate the much needed transition to renewable energy. California has been at the forefront of adopting and endorsing climate-friendly policies and solutions. The 22 tanks that Vopak has been repurposing to store renewable fuels in the future will make their Los Angeles Terminal an important hub that can help the region’s transportation industry become more sustainable – together, we are creating a future where Neste’s #SAF will be used for airlines at the Los Angeles International Airport and other surrounding airports.
