I'm really honored to have been invited to participate in the EMS Leadership Academy 5th Annual Summit! It has been fascinating to watch the summit grow from an idea that some considered ridiculous in 2019 to a virtual conference that provides an experience that is just as good as, and sometimes even better than, an in-person gathering. This is particularly true for EMS systems with limited budgets for travel and training but with the same requirements for expertise as larger organizations and sometimes even greater ones. With the global pandemic, what was once considered absurd has now become a "godsend" for many people who would not otherwise have the chance to attend one of these events in person. Robbie MacCue, MBA, FP-C, and Lisa Giruzzi have developed an outstanding program that offers cutting-edge information to the EMS community. Such a joy to join the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA Women's Leadership Resource Network to discuss one of my favorite things: values! My personal values are: Accountability, Courage, Ease, and Kindness, and my annual mission statement includes a statement or two about my values. It's really powerful to see how this mission statement changes each year. For 2024, it reads: 🔸 My purpose is to normalize the reality of workplace transitions, and support those who seek leaving well with intention and joy. 🔸 I lead with kindness, and believe in courage and accountability as needed steps in the staircase of change. 🔸 I enter spaces authentically, with welcoming, and possess fierce quiet power. 🔸 I will be known as someone who pushed the envelope, insisted on integrity, and showed up for impact. Each of us has the opportunity to 'operationalize' our values by choosing 1-2 small ways those values can live out in the open. If you think about the folks you most respect, it's very likely that the things you admire about them have a lot to do with their personal values.
