Spotting domestic abuse in your life can be incredibly difficult particularly if you’ve lived with it as a child. Read Lisa's story below... “ You’re useless and you’ll never amount to anything…” My Dad. My Dad was emotionally and psychologically abusive to my mum, myself and my sister but because he was aggressive but never physically violent we didn’t label it as abuse. Instead we often felt we were to blame because we were just not good enough, fast enough, clever enough, quiet enough to meet his needs. Despite not having contact with him for more than 25 years, the fear and shame of not being good enough has followed me into my adult life. Up until I started to work on Get Out Get Love, I didn’t realise how much the abuse and the coping mechanisms I developed to deal with it were still affecting my confidence, self-concept and limiting my ambitions. Working with Get Out Get Love and doing the programme myself has helped me begin to address this. It’s been a long road to realisation, and I have only just started my personal recovery journey, but I wanted to say there is hope, you can remove the impact of abuse from your life. The first step is to NOTICE and NAME it. We built a free relationship assessment tool to help you do this, you’ll find it on our home page: https://lnkd.in/e8P9iH5B #domesticabuser #domesticabuserecovery

Dads, you're being alienated and every ounce of you and evidence tells you it's over .. that you've lost your child. The grief can be - is - immense .. seemingly unmanageable at times .. you must manage it, and you can. Look at the image. Through the distortion, what can you see? This domestic abuse on you is designed to break and erase you. The child psychological abuse on your child is designed to distort the image to a point where they no longer look at it. But look closer at the picture. What can you see? You will ALWAYS be 'dad'. And what will you do with that fact? This image is distorted .. but look closely? What do you see? Take a few steps back .. notice it becomes clearer. Remember this.
