Seven years, time flies…
Seven has been my lucky number for so many years, but this seven has little to do with luck. Maybe some luck to be at the right place and the right time when the opportunity to join EY came. But since then luck was almost a non-factor for me to be here right now.
I feel like I still have a lot to develop, to grow, to conquer and to share. But at the same time I can say I’m not the same professional who joined and who was about to take on his first full-time, regular job since leaving his home country. The fact that it was something different from all the stuff I had done before just added to the challenge.
There have been some steps ahead since and, instead of luck, I needed a lot of hard work, will to hear and learn, humility, resilience, adaptability and a lot of patience. Understanding the “Triple T” (Things Take Time) sometimes isn’t that easy but I’ve been shown how true it is time and time again. Like in baseball, where the shortstop should stay ready at all times and the hitter can’t swing for the fences every pitch. The wisdom and balance to do that, again, comes with time.
There have been peaks but valleys are also part of any rollercoaster. And having the ability to take the hit, recover and staying laser-focused and professional regardless of what happens is essential to thrive in such a fast-paced environment. And, at the end of the day, we can’t go anywhere without a ride and all it has to offer us.
And, obviously, we can’t go that far without people supporting us throughout the journey. Maybe there’s where I can feel lucky, because there haven’t been only seven. Don’t want to be unfair and forget to mention anyone but, between counselors, team leads, peers, people from other teams and stakeholders who contributed and made me not only grow but also to feel recognized and appreciated, the number comes closer to 70. Thanks a lot to all of you!
I’m looking forward to this new year of challenges, growth and - I hope - victories. Being healthy, I can’t ask for anything else. Like always, I have what I need to go for the rest.
