Ford's Legendary Journey in Formula 1 🏁 Ford's involvement in Formula 1 has been iconic, with a decades-long legacy. It all began in 1967, when Ford teamed up with Cosworth to create the legendary DFV engine, revolutionizing the world of motorsport. From Graham Hill's historic pole position in 1967 to a dominant presence across various teams, including McLaren, Tyrrell, and Williams, the Ford-Cosworth partnership left an indelible mark on the F1 circuit, triumphing in over 150 races. As the 80s ushered in the era of turbocharged engines, Ford-Cosworth responded with innovation, introducing the potent DFR engine. These powerhouses reigned supreme, not only in F1 but also in Indycar, securing a decade of victories at the Indianapolis 500. Ford's works team partnered with Stewart Grand Prix and, eventually, Jaguar Racing (which would become Red Bull Racing). Although Jaguar Racing faced challenges, Ford's contribution to the sport is undoubtable. Cadillac is looking to join F1 in 2028. This timely announcement isn't a coincident as it falls on the same week as the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Will it actually happen though? Things aren't finalized, yet. The entry would be under Andretti Cadillac but a critical piece is missing. Andretti has not been approved by F1. They have only received approval from the FIA. There seems to be considerable pushback and opposition to Andretti joining. I see their entry as a good thing. It brings another manufacturer into the equation and adds an 11th team to the grid. F1 has been trying to push hard into the US market, especially since the success of Drive to Survive. If they want to attract a larger US-based audience, allowing them entry would most likely be a smart move. The Formula 1 Pit Stop and The Power Of Team Work One hundred thousand. That’s roughly how many practice pit stops Formula 1’s 10 teams did between them. The aim isn’t just to get under two seconds, less than the blink of an eye, but to do so consistently – because race results depend on it… When the strategists decide to bring a driver in, the team manager will put the pit crew – usually a team of around 23 – on standby, and the team burst into action. Each has their own role, whether it’s wheel on, wheel off, gunman or front jack. All four wheels are changed, a tweak may be made to the front wing, a clean of the rear wing and visor and potentially clearing out the sidepods. Then it's off and away. For the driver, their main aim is to hit their marks – so the crew don’t have to adjust their position, costing vital seconds, or to prevent injuring the front jack man, who would take the full force if they overran. From the cockpit, a driver can see very little other than several chaps in helmets engulf the car like a swarm of wasps. It’s lifted up onto the jack and then dropped with a thump – you definitely feel it in your back. During the stop, drivers need to grip the steering wheel tightly and press hard on the brake pedal to enable a smooth change. Then it’s about watching for the green light and hitting the throttle, trusting the system that it’s clear to go. Get it right and you might have a world record on your hands, as Red Bull did after their 1.88s stop with Max Verstappen during the German Grand Prix.

No company is perfect and there are a lot of companies that don't even do the bare minimum for their employees. I grew up seeing more than one employer unfairly treat my Dad with less than grace and dignity. So seeing Roush Yates Engines do meaningful gestures such as this where they honor the lives of employees means a lot and goes a long way.
