More and more, our industry believes that active reforestation, with a focus on climate-adaptive species, is increasingly necessary to help build more resilient forests. However, a recent paper by our very own Tyler Hoecker and Hugh Safford along with folks from among others Stanford University, Mast Reforestation, Blue Forest , USDA Forest Service, shows that over the last two decades, reforestation such as annual tree planting in post-fire areas were found to be insufficient. Learn: 🔥Why this problem is especially apparent in the Western U.S. 🔥How can we scale reforestation to meet current and future demands https://lnkd.in/eGn64y8q

As we celebrate #WorldWaterWeek from August 20th to August 24th, we're reminded of the importance of aquatic science in protecting our water resources. At EDI Environmental Dynamics Inc., we're committed to using our expertise in aquatic science, which is the study of water and the organisms that live in it, to help our clients make informed decisions about water management. Here are some of the ways that we use our aquatic science to understand our water resources: 💧 We conduct assessments of water quality to identify potential contaminants. 💧 We develop monitoring programs to track the health of water bodies. 💧 We provide technical assistance to help clients implement various water measures. 💧 We advocate for policies that protect our water resources. We're proud to be a part of the global community working to protect our water resources! Let's work together to make clean water available for future generations 🤝. 📊 The data is clear – our rivers are far from healthy - says latest #StateOfOurRivers report from The Rivers Trust. Sewage, chemicals, plastics, and nutrient pollution plague them. 🚫 0% of England or Northern Ireland’s river stretches are in good overall health. 🐟 Just 15% of English, 31% of Northern Irish and 50% of Irish river stretches reach good ecological health standards. ⚠️ Toxic chemicals that remain in ecosystems for decades pollute every stretch of English rivers. 📉 Yet, water quality monitoring has declined over recent decades, exactly when we need more data to tackle these issues. This is why we need #afreshwaterfuture 💦💙 Launched last month, #afreshwaterfuture is an independent review and co-created vision for the future of the water sector. It's the result of collaborative efforts with 5000 individuals, including experts, stakeholders, and the public. Facilitated by CIWEM (The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management). We’re working with many organisations, including The Rivers Trust to make #afreshwaterfuture a reality. Together, we can do it 💦💪 Learn more about A Fresh Water Future via the link in the comments.

Restoring and creating new habitat along our rivers is not merely an ecological endeavour; it's a beacon of hope for the survival of countless species, including the Atlantic salmon, European eel, numerous species of bats and birds and a crucial strategy in building resilience against the climate crisis. The river's banks, wetlands, and floodplain serve as vital lifelines for biodiversity, offering refuge, sustenance, and breeding grounds for a diverse array of plants and animals. As we face the urgent challenges of climate change, restoring and improving freshwater habitats emerges as an effective tool. These habitats serve as natural carbon sinks, absorbing and storing CO2, thereby mitigating the effects of global warming. Furthermore, they contribute to local temperature regulation, flood risk reduction, making communities more resilient to climate-related extreme weather events. But perhaps most importantly, by coming together to restore and create new habitats, we're not just protecting species; we're preserving the very essence of life itself.... ✊ We all need healthy rivers, but right now they need us! 👇 #stateofourrivers #twinemergencies #climatechangesolutions #ecologicalrestoration Bristol City Council South Gloucestershire Council Wiltshire Council North Somerset Council Bath & North East Somerset Council
