This an ominous sign for the Pacific Northwest. We clearly need more power to meet the our legislators' desire to electrify heat, cooking, and bring more EVs online. Unfortunately, the new sources of electricity being brought online are clearly not available when consumers need them the most as this Clearing Up article describes. Now let's talk about the continued efforts to remove a stable source of carbon-free electricity from the mix. Of course, I'm talking about the potential to take offline the four Lower Snake River Dams and the 3,000 megawatts of dispatchable (readily available) hydropower they can provide. Four Native American tribes, two states and the U.S. Government have agreed to work together to replace the energy now produced by hydroelectric dams. The U.S. Congress could then vote to breach the dams to restore native fish populations. #solar #technology #renewableenergy

The situation in the hydropower sector and the power system as of February 9: 🔹 Ukrhydroenergo stations are operating normally, providing the power system with balancing capacities. 🔹The level of electricity consumption has increased due to the cold snap. However, no deficit in the power system is expected. 🔹It is important not to overload the power system, especially during peak consumption hours (from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00). Always amazed by this type of innovation.

One easy and cheap way to produce energy from water is through hydroelectric power. It involves harnessing the energy of flowing or falling water, such as rivers or waterfalls, to generate electricity. Small-scale hydroelectric systems can be relatively simple and cost-effective to set up, especially in areas with abundant water resources.

At the plant level, water flows through a pipe—also known as a penstock—and then spins the blades in a turbine, which, in turn, spins a generator that ultimately produces electricity. Most conventional hydroelectric facilities operate this way, including run-of-the-river systems and pumped storage systems.

CLOSED LOOP, off river PUMPED HYDRO STORAGE with high head heights means that pumped hydro REUSES WATER over and over AGAIN with LITTLE LOSS, doesn’t impact existing rivers and the head height means that the reservoirs are small. Per Stocks, a gigaliter of water with 500 meter head height would provide a gigawatt hour of energy storage with two small reservoirs only a kilometer on a side if square, more ponds than new lakes. https://lnkd.in/dbJWCJQm
