Founder & CEO @ ROADMEDIC® | LiDAR, radar, camera sensor fusion post-crash care ecosystem connecting cars in 2-3 seconds to Next-Generation 9-1-1 computer-aided dispatch
The LiDAR Saving Lives Public Safety Coalition & Consultancy in cooperation the Connected Vehicle Systems Alliance (COVESA) and EENA 112 is an excellent initiative to bridge the gap between the 9-1-1 public safety community and private sectors (#6). LiDAR Saving Lives navigates the complexities of emerging V2X safety technologies, ensuring their harmonious integration. By fostering collaboration, the coalition brings together the invaluable insights of police, fire, and EMS professionals and aligns interests, creating a unified front to tackle the challenges. Let's think outside the box together and pave the way for a future where V2X isn't an exercise in futility but a transformative reality. The synergy between 9-1-1 public safety professionals and private innovators will drive the sustainable implementation of emerging V2X safety technologies. #V2X #NG911 #911Dispatch #FirstResponders #SavingLivesTogether #LiDAR #Radar #Camera #Ultrasonic #Thermal #VehicleSubmersion #Sensors #AutoSafety #COVESA #EENA #911 #112 #999 #police #fire #EMS

V2X is a waste of time. There, I said it. So, why is V2X an exercise in futility, akin to pushing a boulder up a hill? It stems from the discrepancy between the real world in which we live and the idealized one in which we aspire to exist. First, let me clarify that I support the concept of Vision Zero, which aims for a future where road traffic fatalities and serious injuries are reduced to zero — in theory. However, my reservation, noted as 'in theory,' is because Vision Zero harbors certain assumptions about the real world that miss the mark: 1) Autonomous Driving — perceived as just around the corner, but the reality, highlighted by the Cruise fiascos and OEM pull-outs from autonomous driving, shows that the path to monetization is fraught with challenges. 2) Universal Adoption of New Vehicles — assumes that everyone will drive a new car equipped with the latest V2X technologies, overlooking the lengthy transition required as current vehicles retire and ignoring the broader implications of the 'X' in V2X. 3) Compliance with Speed-Limiting Technologies (as an example) — expects widespread acceptance of nanny-tech, which may be feasible in Europe but faces significant resistance in the USA. 4) Government Funding — relies on the belief that the government will fully fund this technology, a notion that disregards the financial realities and hinders private sector initiatives due to lack of clear monetization strategies. 5) Infrastructure Adaptation — assumes antiquated infrastructure and urban environments will seamlessly adapt to accommodate V2X technologies, ignoring the outdated technology currently in use. 6) Collaboration Between Public and Private Entities — expects that public and private entities will effectively collaborate to implement these technologies universally, without addressing the complexities and challenges of such cooperation. 7) Underestimation of Technological Challenges — overlooks the technological challenges, including cybersecurity threats and the complexity of creating a standardized system, underestimating the scale of the hurdles ahead. I could go on, but I'll stop there. Each of these points underscores a significant gap between the optimistic projections of V2X advocates and the pragmatic realities of technological adoption, societal acceptance, and financial constraints. The journey towards integrating V2X technologies into our daily lives is fraught with more hurdles than its proponents would like to admit. Where does this leave us? There are novel ways to tackle this problem, but they demand thinking outside the box. V2X must be abstracted. The individuals currently navigating these challenges often possess a narrow perspective that limits their problem-solving approaches. Addressing this issue calls for holistic ideation, a thorough monetization strategy, and a profound understanding of the available technologies and their interactions. #v2x #vehiclesafety #ideation #sdv #autonomousvehicles
