The safety of the communities in which we live and work is paramount at BNSF, and starting this year, we recognize the state departments of transportation (DOTs) that are equally dedicated to improving railroad safety. The inaugural “Tracking to Zero” awards honor states that are helping reduce grade-crossing incidents across our 32,500-mile network.
The first-of-their-kind awards go to Idaho, Montana, New Mexico and Wyoming for averaging less than one grade-crossing incident per one million BNSF train miles traveled in their respective states.
*STATE TO WATCH: We also would like to recognize the Illinois DOT as a “State to Watch” this year, with a rate of 1.1 incidents per million BNSF train miles, nearing that 1.0 safety milestone.
Congratulations to these state DOTs and thank you for helping BNSF realize our safety vision, which includes zero grade-crossing incidents on our railroad.
