We're presently working on on a series of very large pieces of work developing images for the new Future Towns Innovation Hub at the University of Southampton and The University of Southampton Science Park. The FTIH is tasked with helping to answer some of the most immediately challenging questions about living in urban settings that are faced by humans in the age of climate change. The hub is making a place where many of these structural, behavioural and cultural challenges can be addressed by people and organisations from diverse experiences. Our own experience teaches us that it's no easy thing to make a successful space for collaboration, so it has been a privilege to have the chance to help capture and harness some of the energy and urgency going into answering these challenges. Of course, this has meant working with very many partners and collaborators most immediately; thanks all Ruby Jackson Professor Clint Styles Paul Kemp Gillian Saieva @Sian Campbell Robin Chave and many more throughout the extended network busy working at and for the Future Towns Innovation Hub. The World Economic Forum recently unveiled the Alliance for Urban Innovation, a global initiative set to foster innovation ecosystems in major cities, starting with Detroit, Ottawa, and San Francisco. This announcement was made at the Urban Transformation Summit in Detroit on October 11. The summit brings in more than 200 business leaders, policymakers, leaders from international and civil society organizations, and innovators and social entrepreneurs to forge new collaborations, showcase innovative solutions and mobilize action in support of more sustainable and inclusive cities and urban economies. The initiative represents a collaborative effort to address urban challenges, boost investment, and stimulate innovation, with a coalition dedicated to advancing equitable, resilient urban futures. Clusters meet Regions in #Milan: Navigating the Twin Transition & Innovation 🇮🇹 The first Clusters meet Regions of 2024, and the first to ever be held in Italy, took place on 26 and 27 March in Milan. The event spotlighted the twin transition, sustainability and digitalisation challenges, particularly focusing on #Lombardy's complex industrial landscape. 🇪🇺 Organised by the European Cluster Collaboration Platform (ECCP), Regione Lombardia, and AFIL - Associazione Fabbrica Intelligente Lombardia, the event drew over 160 participants from across Europe to discuss ecosystem models, clusters and innovation strategies, diving into new challenges, particularly within Lombardy's intricate industrial landscape. 👉🏻 Highlights included discussions on leveraging clusters for regional development, the EU's role in fostering competitive advantages and integrating research and industry for sustainable economic growth.
