🔑One truth becomes evident: the youth hold the key to unlock a sustainable future. 🌍   The MorphoPoly workshop, a collaboration between the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, UNIDO Bridge for Cities, and the UNIDO Innovation Lab, stands as a testament to the profound impact of involving young minds in shaping our cities. This dynamic workshop has not only nurtured creativity and innovation but has also amplified the voices of the next generation of change-makers.   The true power of the youth shines through as they fearlessly confront urban challenges. Through creative and gamified city-building at the MorphoPoly Workshop, the youth are driving solutions that address sustainability and a multitude of other critical issues. Their fresh perspectives and boundless imaginations pave the way for resilient and eco-friendly urban landscapes.   Especially one thing became very clear after some time playing the MorphoPoly board game: If you want to transform urban areas into sustainable and inclusive places, you have to cooperate. The exchange between cities is crucial, and we can learn from other cities' innovative approaches to tackling problems. If we build bridges between cities, we can all thrive and design a sustainable urban future. Only together can we create resilient cities.   Bridge for Cities is aware of the importance of global cooperation and exchange, which is why the event brings together urban stakeholders from different cities around the world to exchange ideas, share experiences, and collectively pave the path toward a green urban future. This event serves as a reminder that our shared challenges demand a united response, and the youth, with their engagement and ideas, are at the forefront of this movement. Reinventing the city! Cities are innovation hubs where an increasing number of people live, work, recreate, interact, and care. The place where major transitions take place in mobility, circularity, renewable energy, climate adaptation, urban food systems, and digitization. Our cities set the agenda for improving the livability and sustainability of our world. This week I joined a panel in the AMS Institute Scientific Conference 2024 together with Carlo Ratti, Carola Hein, Sacha Stolp and Corinne Vigreux hosted bij AMS scientific director Eveline Van Leeuwen. We discussed what kind of innovation we REALLY need. The answer is difficult. Personally I strongly believe in combining technical and social innovations. Not only new ways for urban energy, mobility and sustainability but also innovation in changing behavior; social innovations. I included the topics “broad welfare” and “social equality” and the need for more social connection and trust and how to connect entrepreneurship to science. I really enjoyed the interaction and atmosphere with 200 international scientists and students. It gives me hope with such a motivated science community to reinvent our cities! AMS Institute was founded in 2014 by TU Delft, Wageningen University & Research and Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Gemeente Amsterdam and is an internationally leading institute where engineers, designers, and both natural and social scientists jointly develop metropolitan solutions. One of their latest bg results is a better and faster way to repair bridges and quay walls in Amsterdam. As cooperative Rabobank we stimulate city development in Adam extra by financing impactfull city innovative start and scale up’s and support social entrepreneurs and city programs with funding and network. How to assess and frame the challenges and potentials of circular lifestyles in city centres. We are working on identifying the Good practices connected to: 1. Circular economy lifestyles 2. Methodology 3. Sustainable business models 4. Urban regeneration Thanks to this research led by Budapest University of Technology and Economics, we will be able to provide a profound base for understanding the patterns and concerns of circular lifestyles in urban settings. Our collaborative effort between the H2020 project CENTRINNO and its Sister Projects (HUB-IN and T-Factor) has resulted in a groundbreaking policy report: "Towards innovative, inclusive, and creative hubs in European cities." 🏙️ With insights from 23 pilot areas across the EU, we've crafted 9 evidence-based policy recommendations, each backed by a total of 25 compelling case studies from our pilot cities. Here is the another article, in Urban Science, that is part of a set of explorations in which myself and my co-authors report on specific facets of the co-creation and co-governance process as learnings from the #CLEVERCities Project. This latest article looks at the very early stages of co-creation in contexts where stakeholders may not be used to working together and may also have high levels of distrust or apathy with respect to top-down projects.
