China’s Pain is India’s Gain With China’s massive capacity of nearly 1000GW and over 50% excess, it remains the global factory for modules, cells, and key technologies. This ensures stable prices, benefiting Indian module companies. 2. Rate of Cell Technology Changes Should Decline TopCon technology now dominates 75% of China’s cell capacity (750GW), meaning significant tech changes are unlikely in the next 10-12 quarters. Slow adoption of HJT and the continued relevance of monoperc technology indicate a beneficial slowdown in tech changes for Indian players. 3. Profit Pool to be Concentrated Major Chinese companies like Jinko, Trina, Longi, and JASolar face losses due to overcapacity but will remain top players. The bottom 15-25% of companies may exit in the next 12-24 months, concentrating profits among the top 5-7 players. A similar trend is expected in India. 4. BESS is the Future, But... Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are crucial but currently double the cost of solar setups. Green Hydrogen: A Story for Now Green hydrogen faces high costs and transportation challenges, costing $7-8 per kg compared to $2 per kg for grey/brown hydrogen.
