The Battery Show Europe 2024 in Stuttgart comes to an end. Three of my biggest highlights:   [1] - Power of digitalization in battery production   Philipp Wunderlich and myself presented key insights into the Accenture-Fraunhofer-Einrichtung Forschungsfertigung Batteriezelle FFB study "The power of digitalization in battery cell manufacturing". Main takeaways are: 🔋 Electrode production takes center stage in digitalization efforts. 💡 Digital technologies drive down costs in battery cell manufacturing: Particularly predictive quality and traceability stand out due to their ability to substantially lower scrap rates by 6.1% and 10.3%, respectively. 🌱 Energy tracking and optimization drive sustainability gain: A reduction in energy usage and emissions by approximately 9.5% is possible. 🔄 Virtual commissioning and traceability save $30M annually in a 40 GWh-factory. 🎯 A strategic, holistic approach leads to the most value.   To find out more about the study, download the whitepaper: https://lnkd.in/eSJhM5JG       Big Kudos to the people that helped in creating the results - especially Niloofar Ehteshami-Flammer, Dr. Antje Fitzner, Leon Mohring, and Christian Dahmen. [2] - Power of collaboration in Europe In a panel with Yann Vincent (ACC - Automotive Cells Company), Stephan Eirich (Eirich official | Maschinenfabrik Gustav Eirich GmbH & Co KG), and Arndt Zipfel (Siemens), we discussed how we can design a collaborative path to sustainable battery manufacturing. Key takeaways for me: 🚀 Battery cell manufacturers are catching up with Asian competitors. 🗎 High regulatory standards have benefits - but pragmatism in this context can lead to time and cost reductions of more than 20%. 🛠️ European machine vendors must show their solutions up and running, for cell manufactures to invest.   🤝For this, innovation platforms such as the PreFab of the Fraunhofer-Einrichtung Forschungsfertigung Batteriezelle FFB in #BatteryCityMünster are a possible strategy. 🔎Seamless traceability and data integration are key corner stones to further improve battery production.
