You should definitely apply for that next level position. Go for that Sr. SDET role, even if you haven’t held that title before. Just do these three things first: 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞: At the top of your resume, clearly state that you are applying for a Sr. SDET position. It’s okay even if your previous title was different. You’re showing that your experience makes you ready for this role at this company. 𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞: Ensure your resume reflects a Senior level SDET. If you're unsure, have someone review it to make sure it meets the expectations of recruiters and hiring managers. 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬: Be ready to share examples of your senior-level work both in your resume and during the interview. Many of us have been in situations where we do the work of the next level but don’t get the promotion due to budget constraints, lack of support, or other reasons. It's okay to seek the next level position through a new job. Just make sure you share the right stories. If you apply for a Sr. SDET role but only mention tasks like implementing a test strategy and using an existing test framework, that’s not enough for a senior-level role. Focus on stories of leadership, influence, and tangible business results. Highlight how you drove innovation, coached juniors, and improved team performance. Good luck! #CareerAdvice #JobSearch #SDET #ResumeTips #Hiring #Promotion #TechJobs #Leadership

"Current demand for SDETs vs traditional devs" Source: https://lnkd.in/gBe2rJyE "How is the demand for SDETs compared to traditional developers post-COVID? Are you finding more opportunities in QA roles than in development? Share your experiences and insights! #SDET #SoftwareDevelopment #QA #TechIndustry #JobMarket" Personal Experience as an SDET Before COVID, I worked as an SDET and toyed with the idea of transitioning to a developer role to avoid being pigeonholed. However, I ultimately found a different career path that suited me better. Despite this, I often wonder how my career trajectory would have differed if I had stayed in QA. Comparison of Demand SDETs, how in demand do you find yourselves compared to traditional developers in the current job market? Share your observations and experiences! #SDET #CareerComparison #TechIndustryTrends #JobOpportunities #QAvsDev

"Sure, there might be a few more candidates knocking about at the minute but whoever's written that job spec should put down the crack pipe and reassess. Are they looking for a really good SDET, or do they actually want a DevOps Engineer, Security Engineer, Performance Engineer all wrapped up in one to also do some testing? Juggling three automation tools, two frameworks, a Jmeter console freeze, a vulnerability and threat assessment, while whistling the tune to candle in the wind" he laughed at his screen. More candidates. More competition. A wider selection of technical skill sets to choose from. Should this raise the bar when it comes to the complexity of new job requirements and their spec? Maybe. Is it going too far in some instances that it is detrimental to hiring the right person? Possibly. By stretching the technical responsibility in your new vacancies or trying to squeeze two roles into one, you may be putting off the best people for the job(s) and searching for the impossible. Or worse, hiring a brilliant SDET and giving them far too many hats to wear... #JobSpecMadness #3in1 #TooManyHats #Simplify #Balance

PhD Student | Full stack Testing professional | Software Developer Engineer in Test | Test Automation | QA Engineer
🌟 Why I Transitioned from Software Engineering to SDET Hello LinkedIn Family! 👋 Ever been asked why you made a big career shift? Well, I’ve been getting that question a lot lately. So, I thought it’s time to share my journey from being a Software Engineer to embracing the role of a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET). Spoiler alert: it’s all about passion! 🚀 Why the Switch? 🤔 Hacking has always been my passion! From the early days of tinkering with code, I've loved uncovering hidden vulnerabilities, outsmarting bugs, and ensuring impeccable software quality. Transitioning to SDET felt like a natural extension of this passion. The Similarities: Honestly, there’s little difference from what I see between the two roles. Both require: - A keen eye for detail - A knack for problem-solving - Coding skills (Yes, SDETs code too!) In SDET, I still get to write code, but with a twist – my focus is on automating tests, breaking things to make them better, and ensuring robust software. It’s like being a detective, hunting down bugs and ensuring software stands up to the toughest challenges. 🕵️♂️💥 Why I’m Thriving in SDET: 1. Detail-Oriented: My background as a Software Engineer helps me spot potential issues early. 2. Problem Solver: Finding creative solutions to complex problems is in my DNA. 3. Passion for Quality: My love for hacking means I’m always motivated to dig deeper and ensure the highest quality. 4. Holistic View: I understand both the developer's perspective and the end-user experience, which is crucial for effective SDET work. Switching to SDET has allowed me to channel my passion for hacking and quality into my daily work. I get to explore software from a different angle, ensuring it’s robust, secure, and user-friendly. It’s like being a superhero for software, catching the bugs before they cause trouble! 🦸♂️🐞 So there you have it – the reason behind my move from Software Engineering to SDET. It’s been an exhilarating journey, and I’m loving every moment of it. Here’s to continuous learning, relentless improvement, and the pursuit of software excellence! 🥂✨ #CareerJourney #SDET #SoftwareEngineering #TechLife #HackingPassion #QualityAssurance #ContinuousImprovement
