Today marks the first day of Black History Month. Recognizing and celebrating both the historical and current contributions of Black People in our communities, and in the FDR field, is something we must aspire to do every day. We must be intentional about creating space for Black voices and amplifying the experiences of the individuals we work with and the families that we serve. By doing this, we not only deepen our understanding of one another, but we create greater opportunity for connection and collective growth. Black History Month allows us an opportunity to pause, reflect, learn, unlearn and expand our knowledge of what it means to move toward a just and equitable society. This month FDRIO will be hosting a unique and important in-person workshop - Attuned: Practical Ways of Embracing Diversity in Professional Settings & Everyday Life. This workshop hosted in downtown Toronto is a practical DEI training that breaks down the compexities of racialized trauma in a relatable way. Topics include: - Developing Relational Attunement - Understanding the 4 F's (fight, flight, freeze, and fawn trauma responses) - Understanding Collective Trauma Learn more and register now: https://lnkd.in/g9XmTA_x *EVENT IS POST-PONED*

As we embark on the month of February, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate Black History Month. This is a time to honor the countless contributions and achievements of Black individuals throughout history, and to reflect on the progress we have made as a society. Black History Month is not only an opportunity to remember and appreciate the pivotal figures who have paved the way for equality and justice, but also a chance to acknowledge the resilience and strength of the Black community. It is a reminder of the struggles that have been overcome, and the ongoing fight for social justice that still persists. Together, we can make a difference. Let's celebrate Black History Month, not just in February, but every day, by recognizing and appreciating the rich tapestry of cultures and experiences that make our world a better place. #BlackHistoryMonth #DiversityandInclusion #InclusiveSociety #CelebratingAchievements #InspiringtheFuture

I celebrate Black History by wearing Black History. Many of my friends are in the creative community as artists, writers, performers and trend setters. They inspire me and make me proud. Wearing archival Carly Cushnie reminds me that my community is unique and dynamic and that our representation matters. Celebrate #blackhistorymonth by supporting Black Businesses ❤️ Shout out a Black Creative Person or Black Brand that you support! 👇🏽 I will go first! Carly Cushnie Harlem Candle Co. Jerome LaMaar Savage X Fenty Fenty Beauty by Rihanna CÉCRED LaQuan Smith Sergio Hudson Ivy Park Aurora James In my studies of psychology and spending as an MD/MBA, studies show that Black consumers are more likely to switch to Black Owned Brands in all sectors. Black consumers want to wear items that give them a sense of pride. They are willing to loyally support a brand that they believe helps their community. Black consumers will spend up to 70 Billion a year by 2030 based on recent studies. It’s worth it to invest in Black Owned Brands. *Statistics taken from McKinsey & Company *

As we kick off Black History Month, we're reminded of the invaluable contributions, resilience, and cultural richness of the African American community. This month isn't just about looking back; it's about recognizing the journey, the struggles, and the ongoing pursuit of justice and equity. Although it is a time to celebrate, it is also crucial to acknowledge the disparities that persist in homeownership for Black Americans. Despite progress, Black homeownership rates in America still lag behind other groups, a reflection of historic injustices and discriminatory practices. Let's continue to advocate for fair housing policies, support initiatives that promote economic empowerment, and work towards a future where everyone has equal opportunities to achieve homeownership and financial security. Join us in honoring the past, celebrating the present, and shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for all. Together, we can make history. https://lnkd.in/gNB2aJ4G

Chief Inclusion, Belonging & Equity Officer at DeVry University | Global DEI Leader | Advancing Community & Belonging
Black History Month is a time to spotlight and celebrate the honorable contributions, achievements, and culture of Black Americans and their communities. However, these efforts should be applied year-round. Fortunately, at DeVry, we can lean into our business resource groups, including the Association of Black Colleagues (ABC), to enable continuous learning by going deeper into discussions and making meaningful connections. From my perspective, as a collective – organizations, businesses, and society as a whole – can acknowledge and support the significance of Black History beyond the month of February. #BlackHistoryMonth Learn more here: https://devry.ly/3T3PCcn

As we step into Black History Month, let's celebrate the immeasurable impact of Black excellence across every sphere of society. From the inventive genius of Garrett Morgan, who gifted us the traffic light, to the poetic prowess of Maya Angelou, whose words traverse the landscape of the human soul, the contributions of Black individuals have been both profound and transformative. Innovation in science and technology, spirited narratives in arts and literature, groundbreaking achievements in sports, and pioneering leadership in business—each domain is rich with stories of resilience, creativity, and perseverance. Figures like George Washington Carver, Serena Williams, and Madam C.J. Walker are not just icons of Black history; they are pillars of our collective human journey. This month let's not only reflect on the past achievements but also ignite conversations about inclusivity, equality, and the ongoing contributions of Black professionals in our industries. Their legacy is a beacon that lights our way forward, reminding us that our strength lies in diversity, our progress in unity. #BlackHistoryMonth #DiversityInIndustry #Innovation #Resilience #Excellence
