Industry Jargon of the Day!
Gobo: An etched metal or glass disc that can project patterns when installed on a light source.
Coming out of covid, there have been a lot of new people working in the trade show industry mostly on the exhibitor side that could benefit from this. This is from an article in Exhibitor "Your Passport to Industry Jargon: An Inexhaustive Glossary Guide" written by Danelle Dodds
Side note: This is not a new technology by any means. Lighting and theater professionals have been using them for decades. Special event planners and trade show exhibits have been using them for years. I introduced this 30 years ago in 1994 for the NHL All Star Game Fan Exhibit here in NY. We needed fill in some blank spaces on the floor and walls but we were not allowed to mount anything to those surfaces, so I recommend projecting logos with Gobos and knew it was also cost effective to do so.

_____ was just _____ of age…
We just heard that phrase once again when Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer Larry Allen passed away at 52.
I don’t know the details but I do know that we all don’t know when but we do know the inevitability of the outcome.
Are you sleepwalking through life or are you doing everything possible to live your version of an extraordinary life?
We created this logo as a symbol of the truth…
We only have one life.

2024 marks a transformative year in the world of intellectual property and creative arts. The beloved 1928 depiction of Mickey Mouse from "Steamboat Willie" now resides in the public domain, a move that is stirring both nostalgia and innovation. This transition ushers in an era where creators can draw inspiration from this classic character, envisioning new narratives that bridge the gap between the golden age of animation and the dynamic creativity of today.
The significance of such a cultural icon becoming available for artistic reinterpretation cannot be overstated. It's a moment that celebrates the legacy of creativity while challenging modern storytellers to build upon a nearly century-old foundation.
Amid this evolving landscape, content channels like HauntNarratives are seizing the opportunity to explore darker, more complex themes. They exemplify how classic motifs can be reimagined to captivate contemporary audiences, offering a fresh perspective on time-honored characters. For those who delve into the realms of horror and suspense, this presents a unique chance to weave new tales from the threads of the past.
While we stand on the cusp of this new creative horizon, it's a time to reflect on the potential for growth and transformation in storytelling. What innovative works will emerge from this blend of the old and the new? How will the iconic figures of yesteryear be reshaped for today's digital canvas?

🤺Weapons Showcase!⚔
We devoted a lot of time and thought to creating weapons that felt unique, each powerful in their own way, while sharing some behaviors and some unifying features.
Each combination of weapon archetype, level, and element, dictated the unique look, sound, stats, and special attack of each weapon.
These overlapping fields were kept in check by a system Dylan S. Byrd and I worked out so that audio would change to reflect each unique blend. Vfx also changed via those parameters, built and integrated by Samantha Sexe and Barclay Chantel.
The results speak for themselves, especially when actually in-game, on a procedurally generated run. Jeremy Randall led the charge on the design of special attacks and itemization, making sure loot drops synergized with level pacing and making sure that each swing of your sword was a spectacle.
Our phenomenal Narrative Director, Winter Mullenix, created this world. Jay Rennie, James Lutz, and Daniel Branigan handled animation, really giving grace, life, and weight to these weapons! Marcos Falco was our fantastic Combat Designer, ensuring that each run was fair but, I assure you, never easy! Joe (Wampole) Jing and Jonathan Nascone designed these blades, spears, and their variations, with Dave Phillips, Kelly Perry, Ahmed Rawi and Jen Mei imagining and illustrating some of the most thoughtful and creative concept art to inform and inspire us all!
...and of course NONE of this would have been done as efficiently or effectively as it was without the leadership and assistance of our fantastic team of producers: Max Krembs, Rachel Unger, Miles Deponty, Tiffany Chu. Absolute treasures, each of you.
<please, if i accidentally didn't mention you or if i made a mistake in attribution, message me so i can correct it in this post!>
(and back to just sound design stuff...my personal favorite is the rot blades because i got to slice through jello with a wire for like 2 whole days. 2nd favorite is the brimstone blades because of the scaling flint-rub audio based on weapon level. enjoy!)

💫 Bethesda's highly awaited game, Starfield, is set to launch in the first half of 2023. Anticipation is through the roof for good reason: picture a gaming realm where you can traverse an incredible 1,000 planets (procedurally generated!)
Nate Purkeypile, a former Bethesda Game Studios artist who dedicated 14 years to classics like Fallout 3 and Starfield, shared insights into the enormity of Starfield's creation.
✨ Nate emphasized that Starfield's sheer scale makes it unprecedented. Unlike past hits such as Fallout 3 and Skyrim, which relied on a single team, Starfield boasts around 500 minds collaborating. Even compared to Fallout 76, a significant project with about 200 team members at its peak, Starfield's development is on another level.
Nate also revealed the challenges of crafting a new fictional universe from scratch – from the design of metal panels to color palettes. Creating 1,000 planets through procedural generation brought its own complexities. Nate's glimpse into Bethesda's dedication and innovation offers insight into the making of this ambitious gaming universe. 🚀🎮
