THE BEST VIDEO I have seen this month (and probably this year) for that big picture of the world events we are living through. In 45 minutes Nate Hagens gives us a concise overview of the meta-crisis we are living through. The metaphor I would use for his talk would be that of the big bang boom at the end of a fireworks display. In these 45 minutes, he brings out everything he has collected over the last 20 years (his academic background, his infographics, his metaphors and ironies...). As in those final fireworks, some may exclaim WOW but others may be scared (small children and animals are often frightened by that amount of noise and lights). For the latter, perhaps Baldwin's first quote (chiasmus) that Nate mentions is the trigger to adapt to these new circumstances they have just met 'Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.' Jame Baldwin The ostrich strategy may work sometimes but in the end we have to face this meta-crisis because it will continue to surround us. This video may be a first way for some to see the big picture. To put it in context, the presentation may have a certain Western-centric bias but one of Nate's objectives was to "wake up" those investors attending Impact Week (usually living with Western values) to show them the blind spots that threaten that lifestyle that will ultimately affect them. Even if we are not (money) investors, we (from a Western point of view) follow the same narrative. Bookmark this video to watch it when you have time. We had four incredibly rich framing conversations last week to hone our strategic focus over the rest of Convergence. While it is too early in the conversation for any tangible actions to emerge, the 90 participants who dialled in over two time zones did ask some very good questions.
