As we spend time with friends and family this Memorial Day, be sure to take a moment of silence to observe the many men and women who have served in a time of war for the U.S. Many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms and our democracy. #ArmedForces #Service #Dedication #Veterans

War is often supported by a state’s people, no matter how unjust or aggressive. Loyalty to state and military is assumed, expected and even demanded: the military must be loyal to the nation and its leaders; the public must be loyal to the military and to its leaders; the media must be loyal to political and military elites, as they ‘fight for the country’. Nationalism, with a strong element of militarism, becomes part of the social fabric. But when we don’t challenge conflict, but give our support and our obedience blindly and loyally, there are serious implications. We become less committed to human rights and less interested in justice, because what we want is victory for ‘our side’. #nationalism #patriotism #loyalty #war #media #politics #state #military

🚨Today, CGS joins people throughout the United States in honoring all those who have served and sacrificed for our country. 👀While honoring our #veterans, we also stress the fact that #war is not inevitable. A key cause of war is the absence of #internationallaw and the inability of institutions like the #UnitedNations and the #InternationalCourtofJustice (ICJ) to mediate #conflict. 👉️To foster #worldpeace, CGS and partner organizations, including @worldfederalist and @worldfuturecouncil, recently launched our #LAW not War campaign to strengthen the #ICJ's jurisdiction and ability to address #internationalconflict. Check out the campaign here: https://lnkd.in/eK_SiW5V 👀This Veterans Day, let's honor our veterans by building a #sustainablefuture where war is no longer a persistent threat, but a historical memory on which we will all reflect with remorse. #VeteransDay #VeteransDay2023 #UN #OneWorld

Keller Army Community Hospital recognizes National Vietnam War Veterans Day – observed every year on March 29th. The United States Vietnam War Commemoration (VWC) was authorized by Congress, established under the Secretary of Defense, and launched by President Obama in 2012. The purpose of the VWC is to thank and honor our Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the nation, with distinct recognition of former prisoners of war and families of those still listed as missing in action. Today we THANK, HONOR, and RECOGNIZE our nation’s Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. There are five objectives with Vietnam Commemoration and the other four are: · Highlight the service of our Armed Forces and support organizations during the war. · Pay tribute to wartime contributions at home by American citizens. · Highlight technology, science and medical advances made during the war. · Recognize contributions by our Allies. Today we recognize the service and sacrifices of those U.S. Armed Forces personnel who served between November 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, regardless of location of service which includes: · Nine million Americans serving during that time. · 6.4 million Americans living today. · 2.7 million U.S. service members who served in Vietnam. · More than 58,000 whose names are memorialized on a black granite wall in our Nation’s capital. · More than 304,000 who were wounded. · More than 1,200 Missing in Action (MIA) heroes who have not yet returned to American soil. · The more than 2,500 who were Prisoners of War (POWs) The commemoration makes no distinction between veterans who served in-county, in-theater, or were stationed elsewhere during those 20 years. #VietnamWarVeterans #VietnamWar #veterans #service #sacrifice #honor #UntilTheyAllComeHome

Recognizing the inadequacy of existing provisions, the committee emphasized the extension of benefits to the families of Agniveers who make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Under the proposed scheme, families of Agniveers slain in action will now receive the same benefits as those provided to the next of kin of regular soldiers, including pension rights. Additionally, the committee has recommended augmenting the ex-gratia amount for families of soldiers who perish in the line of duty. This move underscores a commitment to honor and support our valiant defenders and their families. #agniveers #military #honoringservice #nationalsecurity #positivenews

It seems there's a lot of back-and-forth rhetoric happening around how we label and categorise people and groups. The recent controversy over whether to refer to Commonwealth citizens as "non-UK" or not feels like a political word game. Are we really having a genuine discussion about inclusion and belonging? Or is this just partisan bickering between the Conservatives and Labour, each side trying to score points? Whoever started using this potentially divisive "non-UK" label for Commonwealth soldiers may have had the intention of sowing division. Throughout history, we've seen how labeling and categorising people into "us vs them" can be a tactic to turn groups against each other and make it easier to control them. Is that what's happening here with this debate around the Commonwealth and British identity after our service? #OpBelonging #Commonwealth #military #veterans #Britisharmy #royalairforce #royalnavy

Trust and accountability are two sides of the same coin. This story highlights why the military still enjoys relatively high levels of trust. Other institutions, such as Congress, big media, and government bureaucracy, cannot complain about a lack of trust in their own organizations if they choose to ignore problems and not hold individuals accountable for their actions. In order to build trust, we must be willing to take responsibility and hold ourselves and others accountable. https://lnkd.in/g9Dfv9Tk #Trust #Accountability #Military #Institutions #Responsibility
