Thank you, Andre M. Perry, for highlighting such a significant initiative.
The "Buy Back the Block Lab" signifies a critical shift towards healing the economic disparities faced by Black communities through investment in their own businesses and real estate.
This is a proactive step in not just correcting historical inequities but also in creating self-sustaining ecosystems that can foster generational wealth and community resilience.
This can also positively shift societal perceptions and guard against the erasure of community identity through gentrification. Such collective investment isn't merely an economic act; it's a profound commitment to enduring equity and community empowerment.
I'd love to hear others' views on this. How do you see such initiatives impacting your communities or areas you're familiar with?

How to help communities achieve their potential while avoiding the pitfalls of #gentrification?
The Brookings Institution makes a compelling point regarding the success of local business owners as a safe-guard against the harsh inequities of rapid gentrification:
"Ending CRE [Commercial Real Estate] devaluation in Black neighborhoods would take pressure off residential real estate and help both residents and the jurisdictions that serve them. However, in order to avoid commercial gentrification, increasing the share of Black CRE owners is a necessary part of the solution. Any increase in CRE assessed value would ultimately be tied to higher asking rents for business tenants in majority-Black neighborhoods. Therefore, any equitable solution to the systemic devaluation of assets in Black neighborhoods must restore value to the people and communities that are, literally, losing equity."

As I prepared for our morning Huddle and the need for a morale booster, I decided to compare my very first weekly report with my most recent one.
I am truly amazed at the progress we have made in just 4 months through teamwork and dedication.
Farrington is known to be one of the most challenging properties in Atlanta. However, instead of being intimidated, we were motivated to excel and improve.
Our achievements include:
- Increasing our pre-lease numbers by 4%, now at an impressive 98%.
- Improving our 30-Day trend by almost 5%, now over 95%.
- Enhancing our 60-Day trend by nearly 6%, now over 95%.
- Increasing our renewal turn by 11%.
- Improving our make-ready turn by 15%.
- Increasing our Tour to App ratio by 25%.
- Most notably, decreasing delinquency by a remarkable 44%.
These accomplishments, in light of the challenges we faced at Farrington, are truly remarkable. If teamwork were a property, it would be Farrington Midtown!
"The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team." - Phil Jackson
