Existing propositions for motorists are not new. Service stations are 118 years old, supermarkets are 105 years old, motorway services are 64 years old and drive-thrus are 48 years old. So a key and provocative question is – how could charging stations use the advantage of new innovations in tech and design to produce propositions that disrupt the huge markets sat on by these formats?
This is one big question we're searching for answers on in our search for the ‘Best EV and Mobility Hub in the World’? Insight Research, together with Vontier, are searching the globe for locations which combine EV charging on-the-go together with new and existing retail opportunities which deliver the optimum customer experience. An improving customer experience is vital for the future of mobility and the global energy transition and we encourage all entries.
We encourage your participation by entering this global search which is sponsored by Visa and The Coca-Cola Company.
All entries will be showcased on Global Convenience Store Focus in three categories; ‘urban’, ‘highway’ and ‘commercial’ EV charging locations. This will provide a global view of the EV charging retail landscape while celebrating the journey retailers and CPOs around the world have undertaken to adapt and embrace e-mobility. Going to #ISE in January next year?
This is the fourth in a series of weekly posts on how to do #ISE in #Barcelona like a local from me the co-founder of designflow, Keith Jones, as I spend all my time in #Barcelona when I'm not in the #UK!
Tip 4 – As a special request from people who were there last year, how to avoid the taxi queues at the #firabarcelona:
Leave before (or after) the show finishes each day, an hour either side of the closing time each day gives time for the mass exodus to die down.
A good alternative to taxis is public transport and last year #ise were giving away 4 day tickets for free travel for anybody attending the show and the #tmb app is great for planning routes and finding your way around the network (if #ise are not giving away tickets this year buy a T10 ticket at any metro station, which gives you 10 journeys for about 12 Euros, video included).
There is #metro, from the south entrance the nearest station is Europa Fira, from the east entrance its Fira and the north entrance its Foc or Foneria.
Fira is the best to get to and from the airport as its on the same line.
Use the #autobus, most of the buses in the centre of #barcelona either go north/south using the prefix V (Vertical) or East/West with the prefix H (Horizontal) so with that in mind and #googlemaps finding your way around on the bus is pretty easy.
Finally try walking to another venue nearby for example the shopping centre Gran Via 2 where you should be able to pick up a taxi with the local shoppers!

There were also discussions about the benefits and challenges of installing EV charging infrastructure at retail destinations.
