Scholar Practitioner: Building Collective Power through Relationships and Supporting Transformation through Innovation and Insight
This mirrors other just economy work that I have been privileged to be on the periphery of, Andrea Anderson. This call needs to not only focus on dedication of resources, but also on reframing what it looks like to work together. #BmoreInvested learned a lot about transformative funding, but also we learned about philanthropic collaborations and a little about what it takes to build those relationships and introduce new behaviors. I was just on the advisory committee and also privileged to work with other dynamic groups working towards transformation in our approach to fueling the help that is needed to reframe society, like CLLCTIVLY which focuses on Black-led transformation and Wealth Reclamation Academy of Practitioners which serves the nexus of resourcing and organizing. There is so much humble learning through action and organizing, so much courageous experimentation and audacious envisioning to actualize.
In a commentary for Philanthropy News Digest, Tides Advocacy CEO Romilda (Romy) Avila writes: "All across the country, Black abolitionists, feminists, and progressives are pushing philanthropy to reimagine what a multi-racial and reflective democracy looks like. We are calling on private foundations, community foundations, public charities, individual donors, LLCs, and donor networks to take a step forward for Black liberation." "What is critical for donors and funders to know is that because of their flexibility, 501(c)(4)s are a key strategy for Black-led movements. They keep vital community building work going year-round, but often face extreme dry spells in resources outside of tokenism and last-minute flow of resources during election season to turn out Black voters. Might we envision a radical shift where Black-led advocacy groups are on par in their funding with a 501(c)(4) giant like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)?"

Anyone in NYC interested in supporting much needed and very very urgent surveillance oversight, this event might be for you! As living proof of the destitution potential of unchecked surveillance crime, this event holds meaning for me in particular. Imagine every single home, business, urban, and satellite camera on one network… every software-powered electrical device - from your car consoles to your home printers to the MTA ticket machines, on one network, malintended individuals in your algorithms, and on and on. We spend much of our modern lives digitally connected, and as such, we rely on our devices to serve their consumer and business intent. On the flip side, with everything connected and no governance of any worth in sight, it just takes the flick of a button to start raining ☠️ TERROR ☠️. And, these people have gotten very creative. I can’t yet say that I’m a survivor, I’m still a victim. >> Surveillance, cyber, government enabled crime.
Mass surveillance is no laughing matter, but that won’t stop us from making fun of it at S.T.O.P.’s first comedy fundraiser! I hope you can join me on June 9th to have a great time while supporting an urgent cause. https://lnkd.in/e5_8SMcm

We are close to meeting our end-of-year fundraising goal! Just a few days left to donate. Here are three reasons we need your support today. 1. Our Training and Education program is free - and it’s going to stay that way. Our Training and Education program is funded mostly by grants and donations. We do not charge registration fees. This program has grown quickly in the past three years, serving more than 2,000 defenders every year. We are committed to ensuring these services will remain free so that all defenders have access to the training and support they need, especially in under-resourced jurisdictions. We depend on you to keep this free. 2. Costs have risen. We are determined to pay all of our staff a fair and competitive wage and provide benefits that give every team member the support that they and their families need. With inflation and a team of 14, those costs are higher than they were when ARC was working in our executive director’s basement almost ten years ago. While the costs of travel, records collection, and even client commissary have increased significantly, the fees for services that most courts authorize for our work have remained stagnant. In many of the jurisdictions where we work the rates for mitigation services have not risen in years, which means we need additional sources of support to keep our organization sustainable. 3. We have big plans to change the world. Last week, after a year of working with staff, board members, and other stakeholders, our board of directors approved a new visionary strategic plan for the future of the organization’s work. It includes programming to bring empathy, equity, and justice to all those engaged in the criminal legal system as well as leveraging mitigation to prevent future harm. All of this means that donations from you, our community, are needed today. We hope you'll make a donation to support our work. https://lnkd.in/gfdGci8r

Are you a nonprofit leader struggling to reach your annual funding goals each year? If so, let's connect.
What percentage of $11B will your organization secure this year? If you are a registered 501c3 with a program, your answer should be at least $10K in single donor contributions per year. If not...you need the Donor Hierarchy List (DHL) ™ The Donor Hierarchy List (DHL) ™ is our proven resource designed to help nonprofits build their $100K Donor List. It is especially important to the journey of nonprofit leaders and their boards because it emphasizes the importance of leveraging the right relationships at the right time with the right intentions. We just got news of another organization using the DHL to secure $15K last week. It can do the same for you, visit www.thebrandhospital.com to schedule an appointment to see how we can help your organization get on track to tap into that $11B donation pool using the DHL. #s2brandhospital #donorhierarchylist #nonprofit
Did you know? 🌟 Black households give 25% more of their income annually than white households. Nearly two-thirds of African-American households donate to organizations and causes, contributing a remarkable $11 billion each year. Let's celebrate the power of Black philanthropy and its incredible impact! 🙌🏾 Feel free to share this and spread the word! 🖤 Source: https://lnkd.in/eiJFe_ht #BPM #BlackExcellence #Philanthropy #GivingBack #CommunitySupport #community #BlackPhilanthropyMonth

All policy should be made through a childhood lens.
When we invest in children, we all win💚 That was the message, loud and clear, from the UK’s five largest children’s charities at last month’s political party conferences. Together as a coalition, we hosted panels, briefings and events to ensure that our political leaders prioritise the needs of babies, children and young people. We’re calling for change - so children growing up in the UK are happier, safer and they each have the chance to reach their potential. As we head into the next general election, this event will help charities and funders to better understand current Conservative views on civil society, and what it means for them. We will be joined by Samuel Kasumu, former Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Civil Society and Communities, and Jo Gideon MP to discuss: What differing approaches to the role of civil society are there in the Conservative Party? What might these differing approaches mean for civil society? How can the sector best influence the Conservative party in the run-up to, and following, the general election? https://lnkd.in/etFybKQ3
