I have been told that you got an even better McQueen judge than previously. LOL.
Looking forward to the main event and proud to be part of the #BTAFamily
What 👏 a 👏 day 👏 I left feeling so inspired and honored, the calibre of talent for this years BTAs is incredible. Well done to all nominees and judges. Let’s the interviews commence! ✨
As we commemorate Black History Month, we’re reflecting on what this month means for our employees. Honigman partner Glynis Talley shares her perspective on the progress we've made and the challenges we still face on the journey towards equity and inclusion.
“Black History Month resonates deeply with me, especially in my profession. Recently, I learned that only 1% of partners at law firms are Black women, highlighting ongoing obstacles. Despite this, I remain hopeful for increased representation.
The phrase "lifting as I climb" from my law school days guides my journey as a Black woman in the legal field. Growing up in Saginaw, I was not exposed to many Black attorneys, so finding the right mentors has helped me persevere through challenges and stay the course – even when I wanted to give up. Despite the challenges inherent in the corporate world, I have discovered a sense of camaraderie and encouragement within our diverse community at Honigman. Whether it's casual gatherings or structured mentorship programs, there is a genuine dedication to nurturing inclusivity and empowerment.
As I continue to navigate my professional journey, I feel an immense responsibility to support others on similar paths. As part of the firm’s partnership with the Detroit Economic Club’s Career Readiness Academy, I have the honor of serving as a Young Leader and mentor. I firmly believe it’s not just about achieving personal milestones but about paving the way for those who will come after us.
Looking ahead, I envision a future where the legal profession reflects the diversity and inclusivity we champion. While there's undoubtedly more work to be done, together, we can shape a future where inclusivity and empowerment thrive.”

Honoring Haben Girma: A Trailblazer at the Intersection of Accessibility and Advocacy
This Black History Month, we shine a spotlight on Haben Girma, a figure whose pioneering work has significantly impacted the digital accessibility landscape. As the first Deafblind graduate of Harvard Law School, Girma has transcended barriers, championing inclusivity and accessibility in technology and beyond.
Girma's journey is not just a story of personal triumph but a clarion call for the tech industry to prioritize accessible design. Her advocacy underscores the essential truth that digital environments must be built for everyone, embracing the full spectrum of human diversity. Through her consultations with tech companies, legal advocacy, and inspiring public speaking engagements, she has been a driving force in promoting the importance of integrating accessibility from the ground up.
Her achievements, recognized by her designation as a White House Champion of Change, resonate deeply within our mission at Zenyth. We are reminded that accessibility is not merely about adhering to standards like WCAG 2.2 Level AA, but about fostering a digital world where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can access and benefit from technology.
As we celebrate Black History Month, let's draw inspiration from Haben Girma's work to renew our commitment to creating more inclusive digital spaces. Her legacy teaches us that when we design with everyone in mind, we unlock the potential for innovation and inclusion that benefits us all.
Join us in honoring Haben Girma's contributions to accessibility and inclusivity. Together, we can continue to push for a digital landscape that reflects the diversity and richness of our community.

As we conclude the celebration of Black History Month, we’d like to highlight a #proudmoment stemming from our own internal #changemakers. Last fall, our P.E.A.C.E (People Embracing & Advocating for Cultural Equity) Business Resource Group (BRG) orchestrated a compelling session on the Crown Act. During the session, members of the BRG educated the group on what the Crown Act is, looked at multiple case studies, and benchmarked how other organizations have embraced inclusivity through its implementation.
P.E.A.C.E has long been a catalyst for fostering raw, candid dialogues, yet the profound impact they would activate was initially unforeseen. Members of PulteGroup national compliance and legal team were deeply moved, prompting them to take swift action in evaluating our appearance standards and language usage, ultimately initiating revisions aimed at fostering inclusivity.
The ripple effect of this endeavor prompted P.E.A.C.E to revisit the subject this month, presenting it on a companywide platform as part of our celebration of BHM. This serves as a poignant reminder that although strides have been made, there’s always opportunity to continue to do better. Above all else, we value our people, and we take immense pride in the genuine #changemakers within our ranks.

Didn’t expect that to happen during my finalist interview for the Black Talent Awards.
🤭As I spoke about my personal struggles, the barriers encountered by black children in care and why this work is important to me, a wave of emotions overwhelmed me.
😥The tears were a reflection of grief and sadness stemming from my recent experiences of loss and my own past traumas.
🤔It continues to be surprise me how grief catches us out especially when we think we are ok. Something triggered that sad feeling in me yesterday morning and it all came spiralling out during my interview with the judges of the black talent award.
🤷🏿♀️ Don’t know what they made of my emotional roller coaster during that interview but that’s not what i expected to happen in that conversation.
✊🏿 Today is a new day, am switching back to ensuring that black children in care have the same opportunities as their peers continues to be my driving force and my main focus. Got training to deliver.
👏🏾 Black Talent Awards
Thank you for the conversation and opportunity.

Founder of FrancineParham & Co. | @NextUp, Inc. I Published Author I The 2024 Business Behind the Book Project I Women's Leadership and Career Advancement Expert
When you are clear on your goals this is what what you have the opportunity to witness and experience.
An amazing post penned by Shahidah Foster, MA, CAPM - thank you!
And, I said to myself after reading Shadihah’s post, “Francine, mission achieved.”
As I always share, my goal in writing my book was simply to help women and particularly Black women who look like me succeed. I wanted to get beyond the “what” you need to do that I read in so many business books myself looking for solutions, to “how” you need to take certain steps or actions to truly succeed.
In reading Shaidah’s learnings, she is spot on. And now I have the opportunity to say, I have armed one more Black professional woman with the information she needs to not only professionally succeed in the workplace, but advance as well.
And for those who have asked, why did you write a book only for Black professional women?
Or for those who read the book and said, “Francine, your book is much broader, it’s not just for Black women.”
My response is twofold:
I wrote my book from my lens as a Black professional woman navigating the workplace. That is who I was and remain today with the exception of now being an entrepreneur focused on professional development. Once corporate always corporate, which I am proud to have had my beginnings there.
Secondly, a resounding “yes” to the fact that I talk about topics and specific subjects that are broad and apply to everyone irrespective of race or gender. However, it was important to shine a light on the women like me who are often marginalized and overlooked in corporate America. We are not a homogeneous group and all written to us doesn’t work for us.
And if your experience is like mine, I’ve read so many books that albeit they didn’t call out a particular race or gender, you as the reader already knew who the audience was intended for. And for sure a Black professional woman, it wasn’t intended for me. Note: Go to any bookstore or pull out some of your business books and ask yourself were they truly written with you in mind - probably not.
So for me it made sense to write a book for an audience that was missing in the business book genre. A group that no one was speaking too and that few published Black authors with books - the Black professional woman in the workplace.
And now my goal is to get more diverse voices to share and help more individuals succeed as authors. It should not only be me and a handful of other published authors sharing their stories and lived experiences as more are needed.
So if there are any individuals reading this post and want to write a book becoming a published author, please invest in your goal by joining me at “The Business Behind The Book Summit”, April 23-25, 2024 in NYC.

There are many more diverse women who need to hear your voice and learn from your experiences as a published author.
Happy Black History Month!
🖤❤️💛💚🖤
I want to share „Please Sit Over There: How to Manage Power, Overcome Exclusion, and Succeed as a Black Woman at Work“, a Book by Francine Parham who coincidentally was interviewed by Minda Harts for her book „Right Within“ (see my previous post https://lnkd.in/ekHUH427).
In „Please Sit Over There“, Parham details her experience and the knowledge she gained as a global executive of two major enterprises and how Black women can be strategic and intentional to best rise up the ranks in Corporate America. It’s giving „The 48 Laws of Power For Black Women.“🫰🏾
My key takeaways from the book include:
* Often times you’ll be asked questions where the expected answer is not as straightforward as you’d think. Know the question behind the question. 🤔
* Who is pounding on the table for you? In other words do you have sponsors (always have more than one), that can advocate for your career when you are not present or have the power or influence to advance your career? Keep in mind this is a reciprocal relationship, so be clear about the value you bring to a sponsorship (or a mentorship).‼️
* As a Black professional woman, your personal brand is often created before you have a chance to share your story. So, our task is not crafting a personal brand with what we say, but often it is managing others’ perception of us by dismantling the stereotypes with what we do (actions), namely our non-verbal communication. 🤐
✨ BONUS ✨ You’re only as valuable as your last successful project or the most recent time you saved (or made) your company a substantial amount of money. Don’t ever get too comfortable in your position.
There are so many more gems. You have to read this book! I recommend this book to Black women who are ambitious, want to reach the height of their career either as an individual contributor or a leader and need to understand what kind of games are being played and how‘s it going down. #DMX 😉

How do you prioritize inclusivity and diversity in your day to day life?
Being the only black person in the room isn’t always a bad thing 👀
✨Here’s why (with a mini back story) ✨
This month I presented to our executives alongside my grad colleagues and I couldn’t help but notice that I was the only black woman , the only black person in the room.
Usually I’d let this get me down but then I realised , representation often starts WITH the one person in the room.
Being that person means you are part of something bigger , you are changing the game. You being the only black woman in the room doesn’t go in vain, your presence is valuable.
