Are you playing your part in supporting the Black community? The 2017 Race Disparity Audit found that Black women are the group most likely to have experienced a common mental disorder such as anxiety or depression and that Black men are the group most likely to have experienced a psychotic disorder. This is why Black Minds Matter UK exists. At the BTAs, we're big on celebrating brilliant Black talent. However, if our basic needs of good mental health aren't met, what good are we for any role or leadership position? So, we're holding a Gospel Fundraiser, to raise funds for Black Minds Matter UK and support their crucial mission of connecting Black individuals and families with free therapy by qualified and accredited Black therapists. We'll be hearing from Denise Myers, Anita Bhalla & Danielle Bridge with music from B:Music, The BIMM Birmingham Gospel Choir and DJ Mexy. This is the perfect opportunity to come together as a team, ERG or individual to network and raise funds for a great cause with other members of the #BTAFamily. Head to https://lnkd.in/egi3FVHC for more info and to let us know you're coming. We'll see you on Tuesday. 🖤

As we continue to recognize Black Philanthropy month, we encourage you to revisit the The Bridgespan Group report on racial equity and philanthropy https://lnkd.in/gxfQmeZV which highlights some of the data that drives our work. Despite often disproportionate needs, communities of color have historically received a much smaller percentage of mainstream philanthropic dollars. The issues we face are complex, but the act of giving is not. Join us in supporting Black leaders and solutions that advance equity and benefit us all. https://lnkd.in/gjDpdVay #TheCAFEGroup #BPM2023

Fundraising and Communications Consultant | Bringing People, Ideas, and Resources Together to Fuel Social Change
I’m extending a challenge to philanthropy, including foundations, non-profits, and community members alike, to begin to make detailed accounts of the assets found in Black communities. With as much effort, resources, and time that we dedicate to putting together list after list of the disparities that exist in Black communities, let’s create community asset maps of Black institutional assets, physical assets, people assets and other forms of capital that we possess. And let those assets be the inspiration for how we build more thriving Black communities! CONTINUE READING “RADICAL PHILANTHROPY FOR BLACK-LED MOVEMENTS” HERE: shorturl.at/013788 ****************************************************************************** The month of March will be dedicated to S.M.A.R.T. Black Philanthropy. Follow me as we delve deeper into what asset based philanthropy is and how it can be used to invest in Black communities. ****************************************************************************** S.M.A.R.T. Black Philanthropy aims to advance a new model of philanthropy in Black communities. This model is asset based instead of deficit based. It prioritizes a collaborative approach instead of a competitive approach to philanthropy. Finally, it is rooted in Black traditions and movements.

If you truly want to diversify your donor base, you have to consider the ways in which people give back. How does your organization honor supporters beyond the financial resources they contribute? When choosing board members, is that decision solely based on those who can only contribute significant dollars? Consider all the ways Black people and other marginalized groups give back.
Beyond monetary giving, Black philanthropy can come in the form of kinship care, faith-based giving, activism, resource-sharing and more.

Here is what you should do for Black History Month. If you are an American corporation: 👉 1. Pay your Black employees a 10% bonus. 👉 2. Hire three Black speakers to speak to your organization and give your Black employees that time off. 👉 3. Donate at least 20% of your previous annual charity budget to Black-led nonprofits by and for Black people. This is a bare minimum suggestion in my opinion. If you're a person, please continue to educate people about Black excellence and the continued impact of racism and injustice. But corporations are terrible at education. Just use your money already. 🌎💕 What did I miss? I see a lot of posts about awareness and solidarity, when most of my Black friends want money and tangible results. Why should Black people have to wait any longer to reap the rewards of a just society? (And please don't come at me with "what about...???" This is Black History Month in America, a country founded on slavery. If it doesn't apply to you: scroll, don't hate.) #racism #justice #purpose #leadership

It’s clear there is an emerging and growing resistance and backlash against the pursuit of equity and racial justice within the charitable sector. As voices of dissent amplify, there are vested defenders who not only deny and refuse to acknowledge the colonial roots and its embedded ‘whiteness’ standard, but who are intent on holding the line on the status quo designed to preserve how things have always been done. Black folx, and those with marginalized ‘othered’ identities, have been excluded from full contribution and participation in the sector unless they conform and contort themselves in ways to fit it. And even when they do, their identities are asterisked to indicate conditional acceptance. Black Fundraisers - join us on November 16th & 17th and chart a personal journey and road map as you navigate a path that leads to our collective liberation and destination - racial justice within and outside of the sector. Our convening as Black people is critical as we reimagine and strive together to combat continued challenges and your presence, active contribution, engagement and participation. We want you to bring your ways of knowing and not knowing into this shared space. Some of our members will be speaking, including Nneka Allen, CFRE, COC, PCC, Kerry Dyer Shillito, CFRE, Nicole Salmon, Camila Pereira, PhD and Mide Akerewusi, B.Sc., M.Sc. (Econ), CSR-P, CDEP. and we can't wait! Register here: https://lnkd.in/gFvZ4DD3 There are bursaries available to reduce barriers to attend, please contact Nneka Allen, CFRE, COC, PCC. Black History Month was in February, but for us, it's been an ongoing effort to donate to worthy organizations each month to continue in the discovery, support, honor, and celebration of Black communities in America. Over the last six months, as promised, we've donated to many organizations – some directly linked to the preservation and remembrance of Black history and some for the future of it. June and July organizations focus on systemic improvements for the future of generations to come. June: The Innocence Project (https://lnkd.in/g28vYW4) - Working to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and fight for equitable justice systems for all. July: Black Youth Project (https://lnkd.in/dTqb-jJ) - Cyber-resource center for black youth and those committed to enriching their lives. As a Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) focused company, this campaign has been important to show our support for racial equality in hopes that these donations help make impactful changes.
