Did you know August is Black Business Month? No, this is not a ploy to get you to work with me or with any other business whose founder and CEO is Black. Instead, it is a recognition of the growing variety of business types led by Black CEOs and entrepreneurs across the nation. We don't beg for business or expect anyone to #shopblack for one month out of sympathy for the stark disparity between the nation's Black population and the representation of Black-owned businesses. No, thank you. Rather, we invite you to expand your engagement with businesses run by intelligent, innovative, creative, problem-solving leaders. Don't do *us* a favor. Do yourself a favor by engaging with companies you might not have previously considered to manage your product and service needs. Expect excellent service, quality products, and fair pricing to meet or exceed the value you require. No one wants a handout; only a fair chance to demonstrate value. While entrepreneurship isn't for everyone, I hope today's technologies and creative options inspire more Black innovators, creatives, and problem solvers to start their own enterprises. #blackbusinessmonth

The transportation industry has long benefitted from ingenious Black business leaders like pioneering aviator Bessie Coleman and traffic light inventor Garrett Morgan. Today, Black Americans own 124,000 transportation companies, nearly 7% of all US transportation businesses. At USDOT SBTRC, we celebrate the innovation and resilience that defines this community. It’s a chance to guide others away from the hurdles I faced when starting my own entrepreneurial journey. 🚀 As a leader in the entrepreneurial ecosystem space, I’m driven to instigate positive change and bridge the gap for marginalized entrepreneurs lacking resources and tools to thrive.
