Challenging the wellness and wealth gaps faced by Bla(c)k & Women of Colour, through inclusive tech & programs | Maya Cares | Anyone Can | The Creative Co-Operative
🎉 And that’s a wrap! 🙌🏾 Congratulations to Cohort 4 of the Anyone Can Community Startup Program, to each of the graduating founders, who went from idea to action in the space of 6 weeks. All 10 women have built fantastic inventions and innovations in this short space of time. They’re tagged in the photo, please follow and support. 🌎 Watch out, startup ecosystem and the world! 👀 And watch this space for the announcement of the cash prize winners. 🧡A massive thank you to the Victorian Government for funding the second cohort and to Blackbird (Kate Glazebrook, Danielle Pinkus, Meg Williams) for sponsoring one of the cash prizes and hosting us. 🙏🏽 My gratitude to the event team behind the scenes: Lhamo Ma: event management Sharbani Dhar: MC Meg Williams, Morven Brown and Chait D'Cruz: event support (and so much more) Jess D’Cruz: photography Vanessa Valenzuela: videography Chef Aheda: catering 👩🏽⚖️ And of course to our esteemed judges who had the very difficult job of selecting the winners: Tando Matanda Lina Xu Jasmin Jenkins And our sensational mentors and facilitators who honestly gave SO much: Prisca Ongonga-Daehn Emmagness Ruzvidzo Jenna Leo Grace Mugabe CPA GAICD Rachel Yang ☄️ In the space of just two years, we have created an entirely new presence of Black and Women of Colour in the Australian startup ecosystem, as has never been seen before (and we’ve done that alongside launching a technology product advocating for the wellness of and racial justice for women). In creating this program, we didn’t want to be just another D&I program that ticks the boxes, maintains the status quo or waters down the message. If that were the case, truly - who are we to support the next generation of disruptors? If you’re interested in joining / supporting our movement to advance and create equity for Black and Women of Colour founders in Australia, get in touch. Let’s do this thing together 💪🏽 #startups #blackfounders #womenfounders #womenofcolourfounders The Creative Co-Operative

🔥 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 🔥 At brafe.space, we aim to direct our insights from our own inner development processes, and the profound connections among the multitude perspectives within our community towards a specific question: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 (𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫) 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐨-𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞? One essential way we address this question is by trialing a new approach to funding. We aim to explore how capital needs to flow in order to create space for entrepreneurs and their organizations to evolve. This is why we are super excited to share one of the first Brafe Fundings: Tebalou GmbH. Founded in 2019 by Tebogo Niminde-Dundadengar (she/her) and Olaolu Fajembola (she/her) , Tebalou is a promising e-commerce start-up located in Berlin. The company pursues the vision of an inclusive and diverse society and offers both individual customers and educational institutions a large selection of toys and books that reflect a wide range of diversity criteria. The funding was realized by a group of people within the brafe.space community: Rolf Schroemgens, Joana Breidenbach, Wilfried Gillrath, Petra Becker, Susanna Krueger, Lisa Jaspers, Lilian Breidenbach, Bettina Rollow, Dr. Maximilian Oehl, Finja Carolin Kütz, Hanns-Friedrich Sefranek and Joana Hauff Given the politically and economically tense times, we see this case as an extremely important sign: that a company with such potential, built and run by two Black women, receives the resources and support it needs and deserves to grow successfully and generate impact - precisely where our society so urgently needs it. Congratulations to everyone involved in this exciting happening! 🎉 PS: we couldn't think of a better way to celebrate #internationalwomensday #brafefunding #entrepreneurship #newecosystem #impact #community #fundingnews

Contribute to the #ReparationsRace today! 💙❤️ The Identity & Belonging Coach 🌱Founder and CEO, Hola Magnolia Identityworks 🌺 Executive Director, The Reparations Race ✊🏾💫
Today is the Inaugural #NationalBlackFundingDay in the US! Continue for some stats and a call-to-action. Founded by Dr. Rashae K Barnes, Founder and CEO of Evals Equity Women’s Fund, this day founded to raise awareness (and capital) around the critical need to address equity gaps in funding, education, mentorship and access for Black founders seeking venture capital funding and other forms of monetary investment in their ideas. You don’t need to tell me what can be readily found on the internet, but let me humor us all: According to Crunchbase, Black founders rasied an estimated $2.3 billion in VC funds in 2022. That sounds fantastic! Well, when you consider that VC funding money available in 2022 totaled around $241 billion… 🫠 I probably don’t have to tell you that Black women received only a fraction of that. Around .35% total. I had already learned this from my personal Fairy Black Business Godmentor (in my head) Kathryn Finney of Genius Guild. Now, while I’m all about what today represents, let me be clear: I openly and unambiguously discourage leaping into action without sitting and contemplating deeply what this data is telling you. When it comes to entrepreneurship, Black founders are: ➡️ Systematically excluded ➡️ Systemically undervalued ➡️ Perpetually left to their own devices when their businesses careen towards early closure due to a lack of strategic mentorship and capital This initiative is not to empower folks to pretend that talking about this one day out of the year is going to undo a system that was betting on our failure from jump. It’s a reminder that no matter how little we have had, we have ALWAYS survived. No matter how many times we were told of our inferiority, our individual and collective success has ALWAYS spoken louder. And no matter how many obstacles, setbacks and challenges we have faced… We. Are. Still. HERE. This said, here is Hola Magnolia Identityworks joining the movement with a call-to-action. In honor of National Black Funding Day falling on #SocialSaturday, let’s take a roll call: 1️⃣ Black founders: introduce yourself and your small business or venture in the comments 2️⃣ Non-Black founders and community members: tag some of your favorite Black-owned ventures 3️⃣ VCs, Angels, Grant makers COMMITTED to helping more Black founders develop their ideas and fund their dreams: introduce your opportunity and drop your website in the comments! Amplifying the systemicly silenced is an EVERYDAY job. Here’s your chance to be one of the first to take action in the name of yet another bold new initiative to reverse the course of history. So without further ado… Happy National Black Funding Day!! Onward, network! Let’s make money moves! ✊🏾💫 #BlackLinkedIn #BlackInBusiness #BlacksInTech #VentureCapital #FoundersJourney #OneDaysPay #HolaMagnolia
