My philosophy: Be more Star Trek We are gearing up for a general election in a few weeks' time. Politics is a hot topic. I am not party-affiliated. My politics is rather a belief system, a reflection of my values, ethics, priorities and morals. I owe nobody any allegiance (besides the United Federation of Planets). I am unashamedly inspired by the Utopia envisioned by Gene Roddenberry in Star Trek. In real life, I want to have: 🌈 an equitable and compassionate society, which promotes humanity and community over self-interest 🦄 a good and honest government who care more about the populace than themselves 🌈 a place where everyone prospers not just the rich, and everyone pays fair taxes, especially the most wealthy 🦄 a country where people who need extra help get it, and with dignity 🌈 the accounts balanced, where we stop borrowing so much and spend more on public services and less on interest and waste/corruption 🦄 people being able to afford their basic needs on an average salary, like a decent home, heat, clothes and food 🌈 a country that fosters peace rather than war, which stays friends with its neighbours, uses diplomacy rather than weapons, and which willingly provides a safe haven to those who need it 🦄 good schools, top notch healthcare, excellent social care, and tax deductible childcare for all those who need it. I could add more. Plenty more. Like a food replicator. A diverse bar clientele. A culture which is more Betazoid than Ferengi. And Picard for PM. You might think this wishlist is all rainbows and unicorns. It shouldn't be. These are things we would all benefit from. And they aren't ridiculous goals for a relatively wealthy Western economy. I know we can't have Utopia, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't want it. What is on your political wishlist? What values do you stand for? No interests Friends Or family outside of Wall Street. Here’s how to avoid this: Focus on what’s important, and build a base to launch from. Your base (health, fitness and community) is your friend. Build your base and tend to it. Love yourself every day. Move at least a little. And eat (real) whole foods. Connect with a friend. Do this while working massive hours. Focus on micro-moments of connection with others to have a healthy social life each day and also once you “arrive” financially. 🔱 The “Financial Revolution” continues in full force and nonstop. During our one-day stop in Houston, we met with the Million Dollar led by @Paola.Naildit. It is both exciting and humbling to see the passion of the leaders and the need in the community for change. Many have realized that what our parents, grandparents, and ancestors have done has not worked, and WE NEED TO CHANGE‼️ The old days of “Trabajo mucho mijito para que te vaya bien ‘O’ cuida tu trabajo,” although well-intended, these old wise tales simply do not work. The basic premise of how money works, how money grows, and how money multiplies are basic principles we all must learn. By identifying, developing, and deploying leaders into our Latino communities, we will ensure that no Latino is left behind in understanding financial literacy, financial planning, and the pathway to financial freedom and wealth creation. Our culture inherently has the hardworking mindset; unfortunately, that mindset is parallel with the scarcity mindset. The “Financial Revolution” is geared to shift the mindset paradigm from working hard to working smarter and from scarcity to abundance. For those who are newly connected or need a refresher of who I am. Allow me to briefly introduce myself.   First a cool 😎 fun fact. I have two kids, ages seven and nine. My son (oldest) has starred in several TV shows and movies. The first, Beautiful Boy with Steve Carell (2018). The second, season four This Is Us (2019) and lastly a TV pilot Juicy (2019).   Now, not so cool stuff, me. Born in 1979, originally from the east coast, hence my Boston (857) cell phone area code. I left New England in 2000 when I enlisted in the Marine Corps out of Massachusetts. Professionally, this was originally intended to be four years, in and out; but turned into an entire career. In 2013 I went from active duty into the reserves and took a job with the Department of Defense as a Terrorism Analyst designing real-world training programs based on current terrorism activities. I did six years within the DoD and then after 20 years in the government, I took my ball and went home. The infamous 2,000 things to do check-list of the dun dun dun…transition. And guess what, the resume and LinkedIn “headline” where not at the top of my to-do list and I turned out just fine.   I then went into Amazon operations and then moved into Corporate as their Senior Program Manager of Learning and Development. After 3.5 years, Amazon and I decided to go different directions in our ideas of what L&D is and should be, so I resigned and moved into my current role within financial planning based on passion, and love of the financial industry.   Personally I’ve had my own financial advisor since 2012, and am proud to be a part of the 35% of the US who are working with an advisor. I find it difficult to understand how 65% of US adults are trying to navigate the financial world alone. I suppose it makes sense that over 50% of America is worried about how they will financially make it in retirement. I am glad not to be one of them, and financially, neither will my kids.   I enjoy continuing education and learning. I felt that pursuing a doctorate from a prestigious university like USC made sense for me, and although I share Boston ties, the Trojan family has become home to me over the past few years. I absolutely love the Trojan family and network ✌️   I write a lot, more so to express my ideas and release my inner sarcasm. I at times come off sarcastic, which in some sense is mixed with a slight hint of condescending point-blank truth. I’m working on that. I don’t do well with lack of common sense, and I’m not entirely aligned with lazy people, in any way. I wrote for Jiu-Jitsu magazine for a while and published 14 articles as their lead nutritional writer as well as some books. I fought MMA under California Amateur Martial arts Organization (CAMO) for several years and have an extensive background in jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai as well as firearms.   I am not married, love my kids dearly and own some bad-ass Jeep wranglers. Story from a team member. It was time to change things up. My husband suggested I get an application form for the Co-op so I could stay close to the kids. Seriously? After spending 20 years climbing the corporate ladder, he wanted me to stock shelves so I could pick up my kids after school. Now, I don’t judge others, and you don’t know me, but let me tell you, that wasn’t going to work for me. Yes, I was bored. Yes, I felt unfulfilled and spent my time clicking through daytime TV. And yes, after having two beautiful babies, I couldn’t help but feel like I had somehow failed and lacked meaningful connections with others. Then, someone introduced me to Utility Warehouse. I first heard of it through a friend. I couldn’t help but wonder, “Why hadn’t I thought of this before?” Maybe it’s because they keep it somewhat of a secret by not advertising. The question you have to ask is, what is your motivation? ✅ Extra income ✅ Financial Freedom ✅ More spare time ✅ Have your own business ✅ Income in retirement ✅ Personal development ✅ Leave a legacy Mine was to fill the void in my life and find something where I could truly succeed. Stocking shelves at the Co-op just didn’t fit that vision of success. Purpose — Providing for you and your family, not depending on your parents to support you well in your 20’s and 30’s is also a purpose! Gen X and Gen Z should consider 😊 It’s alarming that almost 60% of Gen X and Gen Z are still depending on their parents to meet their ends… And making profit for a company is also a purpose because it pays your salary and bonus which you can use to pursue whatever purpose you have outside work! How you live your life is up to you. If you want a purpose or mission, by all means, go work for a nonprofit. But for-profit companies have scale and a much bigger impact on society. They end hunger, provide shelter, educate workers and invent the future. Their profits measure success in delighting customers. Profits are purpose, though saying that to those who don’t understand capitalism is like sunlight to vampires. Providing what a customer needs is exactly what contributes to the world’s well-being and creates societal wealth. Be warned: Things like “purpose” usually get thrown to the curb when layoffs accelerate into recessions. In the meantime, enjoy your journey.
