Happy Juneteenth! ❤️ Today celebrates freedom for Black Americans and the continued pursuit of a future where every voice is heard, every life is valued, and every human has a fair chance. Juneteenth is a distinct decision to respond to a painful history of racial injustices with a JOYful celebration, filled with authentic culture, pop-up markets, amazing music, and traditional red drinks! This aligns with our mission to create JOY for our clients and event attendees, no matter where they are from. Let’s honor this day by celebrating and supporting these organizations in our industry that continue to fight for equality for all BIPOC professionals: National Coalition of Black Meeting Professionals, Meeting Professionals International's Black Meeting Professionals, The ABEP - Association of Black Event Professionals, National Events Council, and The National Society of Black Wedding & Event Professionals.

As we kick off Black History Month, we're reminded of the invaluable contributions, resilience, and cultural richness of the African American community. This month isn't just about looking back; it's about recognizing the journey, the struggles, and the ongoing pursuit of justice and equity. Although it is a time to celebrate, it is also crucial to acknowledge the disparities that persist in homeownership for Black Americans. Despite progress, Black homeownership rates in America still lag behind other groups, a reflection of historic injustices and discriminatory practices. Let's continue to advocate for fair housing policies, support initiatives that promote economic empowerment, and work towards a future where everyone has equal opportunities to achieve homeownership and financial security. Join us in honoring the past, celebrating the present, and shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for all. Together, we can make history. https://lnkd.in/gNB2aJ4G

February is Black History Month. What can you do to celebrate? Well, I'm so glad you asked! ✊ Invest in Black-owned businesses Do you follow a Black creator on social media? Sign up for their Pateron! Or go grab a bite to eat at a Black-owned business. ✊ Take time to learn about the Black experience There's tons of documentaries and movies illustrating the experience of Black Americans. Having trouble choosing one? My recommendation would be the documentary-- 13th. ✊ Amplify Black Voices Share posts from Black creators, engage with their content! One of my favorite authors/creators is Rachel Cargle and during Black History Month, she encourages those that follow her on social media to do the work instead of her doing all the heavy lifting, and in doing so, will posts prompts for followers to take time to research and dig into for themselves. 👊 Celebrate, but don't ask for labor If it was your birthday and someone asked you to bake your own cake, it might be a little confusing, right? Let's not put the work on people of color to educate. But let's definitely celebrate the many contributions that Black Americans have made to this country.

We hear a lot about the success of #apms and #valuebasedcare programs, yet what are the unintended consequences of such a blanket approach? Are there other ways to support resource constrained hospitals who care for vulnerable populations? Thanks to Health Affairs and Ashley N. Kyalwazi for bringing the issue of how Medicare Hospital VBP is having unintended consequences of penalizing resource constrained hospitals which care for a high volume of Black adults, causing some greater disparities in health outcomes. This is the exact opposite of the purpose of apms and VBPs. Please take a moment and read the article, the link is in the post.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we must also acknowledge the challenges and gaps faced by black communities particularly in access to education. We must continue to address policies that marginalize black students and perpetuate inequalities while working to implement anti-racism policies. https://ow.ly/CpHI50QFFXI
