Rikolto East Africa through its incubator project called Generation Food Accelerator Cohort II (GFA2) funded by European Union under AGRI-CONNECT Programme is supporting young men and women and emerging entrepreneurs in horticulture value chain with the aim of creating employment among themselves while making food availability year-round. I met Ms Aziza Mgambo a Managing Director for #LECfoodenterprises in Njombe who is producing tamarind and mango sources in Njombe town and in near future she is expecting to start adding value on tomatoes and other fruits that are produced in Njombe. If this investment will be supported under GFA2, it will help to answer the questions "What Will We Eat Tomorrow?". #LECfoodenterprises bring answers by processing fruits that are season to be available in off-season and this will contribute to African Food System. An exciting moment for us as this event, themed “Agroecology for Inclusiveness, Social, Economic, and Environmental Sustenance,” is set to transform our agricultural landscape towards a more sustainable and inclusive food system thereby building the resilience of Zambia’s smallholder farmers who are predominantly women. Applicants will go through a rigorous selection process with the chance of being among 6 finalists invited to attend a Pitching and Award Ceremony in Kigali towards the end of the year (exact date TBD). All finalists will receive coaching to perfect their pitches that will be delivered at the ceremony before a jury of experts from the fields of investing, development cooperation and finance, sustainable agriculture and food systems. The “Africa Food Systems Forum – AGRF Summit 2023” took place early September in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with more than 4,000 stakeholders representing governments, agri-businesses, development agencies, financial institutions, NGOs etc. We wanted to move African food systems forward by sharing lessons and initiate practical action. This event addressed key issues such as regenerative agriculture and biodiversity, technology and innovations, agri-food entrepreneurship, inclusive business including women and youths, markets and trade, food governance, alternative financing solutions including climate funds. As the director of Rikolto's Global Rice Program, which spans nine countries in Africa and Asia, I participated in a stimulating expert group discussion hosted by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). We focused on fostering innovation, forging meaningful partnerships, and advocating for policy adjustments to achieve rice self-sufficiency in Africa. I'm proud to say that Rikolto's Global Rice Programme is not only adept at addressing these critical challenges, but also embracing the latest developments in the field. I hope that the momentum generated during this summit will translate into tangible action, with all key stakeholders committed to implementing the insights we've gained. In the wake of the summit, Rikolto held a series of strategy meetings within our East Africa teams on our #SustainableRice and #GoodFoodforCities programmes. Our discussions revolved around: • The facilitation of inclusive businesses • The development of evidence for impact cases on sustainable rice production and climate financing models • The synergies within our programmes • Fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships In addition, we have reviewed and strengthened our monitoring and evaluation system, to enable us to provide quality data and information for accountability but also for continuous learning and informed strategic decision-making. 🚀🌟New Project alert! 🌱 #TAAT is thrilled to share that we're embarking on a transformative journey with the African Development Bank Group and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in launching a Regenerative Agriculture project in Ethiopia and Nigeria. A press launch is taking place in Ethiopia, where our able Dr Charles Murekezi represented Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). This collaborative effort involves key players like Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA), and SoftBank Group Corp. as implementing agencies. With a focus on #rice in #Nigeria and strategic crops like #maize and #wheat in #Ethiopia, this project aims to impact over 200,000 farmers. 🌐🚀Our mission?
