🗣️ Watch Davide Risso, MSc, PhD from Tate & Lyle talk about our latest joint publication around the impact of low-/no-calorie #sweeteners on the #gut #microbiome, for the general population and type II diabetes individuals 🗣️ 🔍 Study highlights 🔍 - We looked at a comprehensive list of sweeteners, including tagatose, sorbitol, maltitol, stevia, acesulfame K, and sucralose. - Both healthy and type-II diabetes individuals were considered - We considered the dosing and digestion of each sweetener individually - The study of the gut microbiome relied on the ex vivo SIFR technology, shown to be predictive for clinical outcomes - Its high throughput was used to simulate about 500 experimental conditions 🌟 Conclusion: the low-/no-calorie sweeteners either fostered positive metabolic and compositional changes in the gut or exhibited no effect, underlining the importance of considering the compounds individually 🌟 🎥 Read more and watch the full video online https://lnkd.in/e-XwRcuJ 🎥 #GutMicrobiome #preclinical #research

🟣Did you know that #ruminants can be affected by the negative effects of #mycotoxins? In this interesting article by Prof. Sabry El-khodary (Mansoura University), we explore the impact of exposure of ruminants to mycotoxins and their main clinical manifestations.

Almost everybody who was involved in gut (and oral?) microbiome research has a _Prevotella_ story. This member of the Bacteroidota came to light as soon as microbiome sequencing emerged. Prevotella, being highly abundant in the gut, was praised and blamed for so many conditions, and was an agent of sickness and health in many early papers. The curious case drove us to write this review, and we are only scratching the surface—with so many strains remaining to be sequenced. It's what E. coli has stirred, a 100 years ago, I guess! Is Natto the most beneficial fermented food? - Natto has previously been shown to suppress atherosclerosis in large-scale clinical trials. - Natto contains a high concentration of vitamin K2 which can mitigate against cardiovascular disease by enhancing arterial flexibility - It also acts in conjunction with vitamin D3 to transport calcium to our bones. - Natto consumption reduced plaque build up, decreased pro-inflammatory cytokines, increased production of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 and promoted a positive change in the gut microbiome.
