Delighted to be at the #CGF #SustainableRetailSummit in Copenhagen, and attend so many interesting presentations and conversations. Some reflections on what I'm seeing: - Sustainability is getting complex: consumer demands, local and global regulations, pressure from investors and employees questionings. - We need to work together to accelerate impact and be successful - organisations can't go at it alone.  - You're not just fixing today's problems but preparing for tomorrow's as well. Its key to listen to consumers and identify new trends to address the needs and requirements of the future.  - One big challenge - food waste across the value chain: suppliers, operations including waste collection and consumers all need to come together. - Sustainability is not a one size fits all approach - you can give consumers different (sustainable!) options. You can have different solutions for different consumers/ countries. - Sustainability and traceability go hand in hand. If you're at the Summit let me know, always excited to talk about these topics

A nice side effect of reducing your company's carbon footprint is that it helps ofset Inflation driven cost increases and thus increases productivity per employee. In terms of employee identification, it is very satisfactory to work for a company that takes its global responsability serious and creates a supportive environment for each associate to be impactfull.

Our sustainability strategy evolves, focusing on water and waste management, biodiversity, and social responsibility integration. Take our efforts to eliminate schistosomiasis, for example. It seemed impossible to squeeze the impact of the work of all our Merck Gruppe sustainability heroes into one annual report, but our reporting team has succeeded. And I am very proud of the result and the publication of our 2023 Sustainability Report today. We have made tremendous progress and the words of our CEO, Belén Garijo, reaffirm our ongoing commitment to sustainability!   In a world facing unprecedented challenges such as devastating wars, climate change denialism, and political extremism, it is paramount for us to staying true to our values and commitments. We embrace our responsibilities and strive for transparency and continuous improvement. #Sustainability is not just a social mandate; it is a business imperative.   I am grateful for the progress our #teams have made towards our ambitious sustainability goals! However, we recognize that there is still much work to be done. Companies are rapidly transitioning to renewable energy sources, adopting innovative technologies and implementing sustainable practices throughout their operations. By reducing their carbon footprint, businesses are not only mitigating climate change but also gaining a competitive edge and winning the hearts of environmentally conscious consumers. #CarbonNeutrality Embracing the principles of a circular economy has become a top priority for businesses.
