We are so excited to share this video from our recent clean-up in Anindilyakwa on the Groote Archipelago.
This campaign was a celebration of collaboration, and the impact we can make when we work together. We were incredibly lucky to work alongside the Anindilyakwa Land and Sea Rangers, members of the local community, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, and CSIRO.
In total, we removed over 134,000 pieces of trash. This is 134,000 pieces that no longer poses a threat to precious marine life like turtles, sea birds, crabs, sharks, rays, dolphins and more.
Thank you to everyone involved!
Sea Shepherd received funding under a Parks Australia Ghost Nets Innovative Solutions grant to support the Anindilyakwa clean up.

Nationally the deer population is growing ever more rapidly. Deer numbers are estimated to be at their highest in the UK at any point in the past 800 years.
In the absence of natural predators, the reduction of deer numbers, along with other wildlife, is becoming increasingly vital to protect new and existing woodlands, agricultural crops, environmental assets, conservation habitats and reduce the instances of road traffic collisions.
At DIS we look at every case individually, objectively and in conjunction with the land owner or manager to assess deer and other wildlife numbers, the impact they are causing and how best to go about damage limitation & population reduction in a safe, discreet and humane
manner.
Importantly we deliver levels of control to meet the landowners’ objectives rather than maintaining deer numbers to ensure a harvestable surplus, a situation which is commonplace with many “deer managers” offering their services to landowners.
Currently many landowners and managers are putting land into various schemes for which considerable grants are available. With payments for Countryside Stewardship, Environmental Land Management, Farm Clusters, native woodland & forestry establishment, coppicing of natural woodland, encouraging natural regeneration of various habitats and hedge planting & laying, this all means it has probably never been more important to have a realistic and deliverable plan in place for protecting these potential and future assets along with the initial financial investment from damage.

Fence off the Ffridd ravines and gullies up to 50m either side, where seed stock isn’t available seed plant appropriate trees.
Incorporate Natural Flood Management interventions here too. The Sustainable Farming Scheme needs to deliver on these kind of very targeted #HedgesAndEdges type interventions. As we have to shade and cool headwaters, slow the flow, reduce flood, prevent soil erosion. Mixed conservation grazing can be reintroduced later.

You are not going to bring farmers with you - “Remove the cloven ecosystem destroyers”. And the fact is, as you will see in the comments, you’ll need to mimick natural grazing, as part of the natural regeneration process.
This is not ‘us and them’, that will mitigate climate impacts for all Welsh communities, it will have to be an ‘us’, collaborating on a landscape scale. If any of it is to happen, we have to enable localised foundational food systems too, food sovereignty. As until a diversity of growers, farmers, or enterprise stacking can happen, that works agroecologically - we’ll never hold enough wealth within Wales, to make this needed foundational food system sustainable.
Every Welsh Town, needs to be the market place for what needs to be an urgent growth area, as there is no food security without food sovereignty.
Increasingly, at any moment whole food groups will, and can disappear from the unsustainable, extractive supermarket model.
Now we need localised retail, vastly reduced packaging, the return of reusable packaging, & the reuse of. The ramping down of food waste associated with global food systems and the elimination of imported goods and foods associated with global deforestation.
Wales the U.K. or anywhere, will not restore nature or mitigate climate impacts, without enabling food sovereignty.
You can enable a few island of Temperate Rain forest to regenerate, with charitable funds, but it’s not going to address the far bigger pressure on global ecosystems, that is unsustainable land use, food waste, and an extractive economy that drives the need for high additional inputs. All of which are becoming more expensive.
Farming, food growing, natural products that are derived from the natural yield of the land, has to reward the grower, first most.
I have seen plenty of examples of deciduous trees naturally regenerating across much of Wales. The critical feature? Exclusion of livestock.
Remove the cloven ecosystem destroyers and be amazed as the landscape rejuvenates itself. In many cases, going to the effort of planting trees is unnecessary.

🌱Revitalizing the marsh in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was our Survival Insurance Project in 2020.🌍
Wondering about the project's progress? We're excited to provide an update! 🌟
Back then, we implemented structural measures to rewet the marsh once drained for agricultural purposes. Wet and functional marshes play a crucial role in climate preservation by storing CO2.
However, restoring marshes to full functionality takes time. After construction, nature needs a period of recovery, gradually allowing the essential flora and fauna to resettle.
Mr. Seidel from the State Forestry Mecklenburg-Vorpommern provided us with the latest update. As seen in the images, the constructs ensure water retention in the marsh, marking a significant step towards restoring it to its original state.
We're thrilled that the revitalization efforts are progressing as planned and hope to see the marsh fully restored soon and that our current hummus project will be just as successful. 🌿
Stay tuned for more updates on our impactful initiatives and find out more about our marsh project here: https://bit.ly/421ZR3V#idealo#idealolife#survivalinsurance#MarshRevitalization#climateprotection#sustainability
Each year, the world loses 10 million hectares of forest due to deforestation alone – an area roughly the size of Iceland. This is staggering, and firmly underlines the need for reforestation to replenish our natural spaces.
Step in, vertical farming! As part of ongoing trials with Forestry and Land Scotland, we’ve been growing tree seedlings at our Crop Research Centre in Dundee, Scotland, since 2022.
As for the result? Just take a look at these Sessile oak seedlings! Our tech solutions give them the perfect start to life – away from disease, pests, and bad weather – before they embark on their new lives in the great outdoors.

3 ways to help save the African penguin from extinction:
🏝️ Visit the penguin’s homes.
The African penguin colonies in Boulders Beach and Betty’s Bay are super popular to visit with tourists and locals alike. Seeing these birds in their natural habitat will inspire you to take care of them!
✉️ Lobby to look after the African penguin.
Contact the authorities to ensure they are doing their best to look after this species. You can email Barbara Creecy, Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment via the @[African Penguins #NOOW](urn:li:organization:97922968) website.
♻️ Use environmentally friendly household cleaning products.
Keep our waterways clean – all water ends up in the sea, so ensure that you only put products down your drain that are environmentally friendly.
What are the best ways to protect our forests? Let's share ideas and make a difference together! Here are some effective ways to get started:
1. Plant more trees
2. Support sustainable forestry practices

🌳 Since 2021, we've been actively engaged in reforesting our local woodlands at Hessenforst! Thanks to your support, we've already planted various tree species in our region in 2021 and 2022. This initiative is conducted in close collaboration with the municipality Altenstadt and the state forestry agency, Hessenforst.
Just last month, we kicked off another exciting tree planting event in the Altenstadt forest! Across two areas, we planted a total of five different tree species, including Norway maple, pedunculate oak, and Douglas firs.
Our CEO, Mr. Edgar Holzhäuser and forester Ms. Lagast were present to oversee the tree planting in Altenstadt. To protect the young trees from various threats, such as wildlife, they were fenced off. This protection is crucial to ensure the growth and health of the newly planted trees.
In previous years, we've planted a variety of tree species, including red oak, small-leaved lime, sessile oak, beech, and coastal spruce. This diversity contributes to promoting biodiversity in the forest and helps keep our woodland healthy in the long run. 🌲💚
