Have you ever wondered why Americans, people from many other nations in continental Europe, and those from elsewhere around the globe drive on the right side of the road? And why, conversely, do Brits and people from other British colonies drive on the left? In the case of the USA, driving on the right goes back to the Eastern Pennsylvania town of Conestoga, where all those wagons were built for America's westward expansion. Napolean, social class, and common forms of movement and conveyance affected Europe's driving decisions. Mass produced automobiles (i.e., horseless carriages) later adopted such norms. Things always make more sense when you are aware of history! To truly understand things in the present, we need to look to the past to uncover the impetus--and that is why Historical Perspective is part of the Global Competence Model™.
