Today’s tip dives into selecting targets that are the most communicatively useful for children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). Many children with CAS face significant challenges in developing a functional vocabulary. As speech therapists, our initial goal should be to help them establish such a vocabulary. 🗣️ To begin, it's crucial to conduct a thorough inventory of the child’s current consonant and vowel inventory. This assessment can provide valuable insights into which words or approximations may be feasible targets for therapy. Word choices should focus on functions that are meaningful to the child, helping to establish functional verbal communication. Once a core vocabulary is established, incorporate phrases to enhance communication and provide functional opportunities in therapy sessions and at home. By choosing targets that are the most communicatively useful, we're empowering children with CAS to express themselves effectively and engage meaningfully with the world around them. 🌟 Check back tomorrow for another useful tip! #apraxiaawareness #childhoodapraxiaofspeech #cas #BetterHearingAndSpeechMonth #CommunicationDisorders #apraxia

When I talk about child-led in speech therapy, I’m emphasizing an approach that puts your child at the center of their learning journey. Here’s what that means and why it’s so beneficial: 1. Following Their Interests:We focus on what your child loves. Whether it’s dinosaurs, trucks, or fairy tales, incorporating their interests makes therapy fun and engaging. 2. Building on Natural Play:Kids learn best through play. We use toys, games, and activities they enjoy to naturally integrate speech and language skills. 3. Empowering Their Choices: Your child gets a say in activities and goals. This autonomy boosts their confidence and motivation. 4. Creating a Positive Environment: By letting your child lead, we create a stress-free, encouraging atmosphere where they feel comfortable and excited to participate. 5. Observing and Adapting: We carefully observe how your child communicates and interacts, adapting our strategies to meet their unique needs and preferences. Remember, when your child feels heard and valued, they’re more likely to make meaningful progress. Let’s celebrate every step forward, no matter how small, and support our children as they grow and thrive in their own wonderful way! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to learn more about child-led speech therapy. Together, we can make a big difference! #ChildLedTherapy #SpeechTherapy #ChildDevelopment #ParentingTips #EmpoweredKids

Today's Collab topic prepared by Varthini (ST) The first signs of communication occur when an infant learns that a cry will bring food, comfort, and companionship. Newborns also begin to recognize important sounds in their environment, such as the voice of their mother or primary caretaker. As they grow, babies begin to sort out the speech sounds that compose the words of their language. By 6 months of age, most babies recognize the basic sounds of their native language. Children vary in their development of speech and language skills. However, they follow a natural progression or timetable for mastering the skills of language. A checklist of milestones for the normal development of speech and language skills in children from birth to 5 years of age is included below. These milestones help doctors and other health professionals determine if a child is on track or if he or she may need extra help. Sometimes a delay may be caused by hearing loss, while other times it may be due to a speech or language disorder. #RaiseAgainstAutism #PinnacleSaysItAll #PinnacleBloomsNetwork #1AutismTherapyCentresNetwork
