Week 3 of Supervision Training: Children & Young People. We were asked to make an art reponse from a picture of ourselves as children. I chose a picture from when I was around 2 years old. Themes that came up: 🎨 freedom 🎨 safety 🎨 play 🎨 happiness 🎨 curiosity 🎨 adventure 🎨 innocence 🎨 anxiety - free 🎨 carefree I tried to embody myself as a child, playing with the watercolour and having careless fun, not thinking too hard or allowing my inner critique have her say. Not allowing anxiety to stop the flow. Not easy - I’m wondering if at 2 years old, I was as care-free? When did my inner critique develop? When did anxiety kick in? When did my playfulness and curiosity start being replaced by caution? Reflection, sometimes provides space for perspective and breathing time. I was curious in how, as a trainee supervisor, I establish boundaries between a therapist and a supervisor when supporting people, as I believe understanding what makes people who they are is important, as it allows us to understand how people show up and be present during the work, however, also distinguishing supervision is different to a therapy session. #supervisor #supervision #courses #arttherapy #arttherapist #reflection #children #youngpeople #responseart #art #watercolour #therapy #birmingham #birmingham #learning #safety #support

Helping Therapists in Private Practice create a more Balanced Business l income diversification l Business Strategy l Host of Free From Burnout Podcast l Trainee Counsellor
Learning the difference between REACTING to anxiety and RESPONDING is a tough one. It takes alot of: 🟩 tolerance 🟩 self awareness 🟩 compassion. It's something i've been proactively working on recently. Especially as a training counsellor - missing that delicate difference could be devestating for a client. #1 common thing that helps me quickly identify when i'm sitting in either camps is: 👉🏾 Feelings. See, responding requires the feeling of → detachment to be prominant. Vs. Reacting has lots of emotions → attached to it and is HEAVILY charged. This was the focus of my teaching on Tuesday at my Anxiety First Aid Workshop for Freelancer Magazine squad. It's probably the most pivitol thing they walked away with. Because it boils down to the difference between enabling your anxiety or reversing it. I can't tell you how many times i've reacted and then responded. Because let's face it your human and reversing the cycle is hard. When a client feels bad about reacting. I remind them that they can't change a subconscious pattern thats you've perfectes over [insert your age] in 24 hours! Give yourself some grace, girl. 🟦 First step is doing the work. 🟦 Second step is expect failure. 🟪 Third step is stay the course. Happy Friday 💜 P.s Peep 👀 below to see the 💜feedback from this weeks workshop!

Visionary leader/Passion for learning that positively impacts a company’s bottom line/Talented at executing program vision and adapting to shifting priorities/Thrives in situations that require strategy and ingenuity.
Another reason I love learning and development...CONSTANT GROWTH! I have never found change scary. As a matter of fact I rather enjoy a rapidly changing environment. I think that is one of the reasons I loved working as a Nurse in the Emergency Department and Trauma. I like to think on my feet and find creative solutions that others may not have considered before. Curiosity, creativity and personal evolution...all reasons I love learning. #adaptordie #learninganddevelopment #creativeleadership

Passionate psychotherapist, supervisor, and clinical professor dedicated to empowering individuals and fostering growth in the mental health field.
Recently, I have been reflecting upon the challenging nature of being a new counselling student! For as much as you learn in the textbooks, you learn far more working with clients. As a #supervisor, it can be challenging to support students venturing into the unknown! There are a few things you can do to make this learning process a bit easier, including: - Remaining consistent and available for your supervisees - Processing challenging moments in order for your supervisee to integrate their learning - Normalize challenges in the growth process -- especially early on! - Celebrate growth moments! How do you work with challenges experienced by new therapists? #counselling #supervision #clinicalsupervision
