Good summary by Noah Tong from Fierce Healthcare on the recent NAACOS spring meeting. At the event, four specific areas of focus were highlighted, including monitoring of DME fraud, a new best practices playbook, an expected pause in legislation passage this year, and SNF partnerships. ACOs are shifting to eCQM, with pilot testing for digital quality measures mentioned. MRO just posted a valuable blog on this topic for ACOs making the change. Cybersecurity, Marketing, Strategy, Product Management, Change Management, and Data Science: A strategic thinker with extensive tactical experience and a history of consistent success in all segments of healthcare
Let not the facts, doctors, hospitals, and policyholders becloud the transaction. That is the stance that Elevance appears to be taking in insisting and persisting on its acquisition of Louisiana Blue Cross: https://lnkd.in/dFE76jU3 It seems that now Elevance and Louisiana Blue Cross are shuffling their organizational cards to create a different look to the situation (sort of like changing the name of Anthem to Elevance) without addressing any of the substantive issues which auger against the deal: https://lnkd.in/dFGXh5Tj As I noted before, Elevance continues to demonstrate how it does not care to act in a way that is in the best interest of its policyholders. https://lnkd.in/dn7xh9J9 Therefore, maybe rather than investing in buying a larger book of business, Elevance should be divesting to right-size its book of business....or at least limit the damage that it causes to the healthcare ecosystem by failing to consistently serve the public good ethically, honestly, transparently, and responsibly.

CMS fears both carriers and FMOs are circumventing the law with “administrative fees.” Carriers pay varying rates for things like Health Risk Assessments, travel reimbursements to make an enrollment, and other such items. HRAs in particular are called out – some plans offer agents up to an additional $125 for completing an HRA at enrollment, far outpacing the $12.50 CMS has pegged as fair market value for that service. CMS believes payments from carriers for training and testing also seem to be growing at an unusually high pace, further cementing their contention that these admin fees are being used to get around the cap.
99% of #healthinsurance agents seem confused about what CMS's proposed #Medicare rule says. Let's separate fact (✔️) from fiction (❌). 1. CMS seeks to reduce agent commissions for #MedicareAdvantage plans ❌ 2. CMS is targeting payments that skirt compensation caps✔️ 3. Scope of services and reimbursements #FMOs may provide could change✔️ Get the details below. While you're at it submit your thoughts to #CMS by Jan 5. Link in the article: 👇

Narrow networks proliferated during the first 10 years of the #affordablecareact. HMOs and exclusive provider organization plans now account for 79% of offerings on the ACA Exchange, up from 42% in 2014. In this #OWHealth article, my colleagues Travis Kistler, Shyam Vichare, and Terry Burke examine why narrow networks now dominate on the Exchange and how that will impact payer strategy in the coming years.

Would you be willing to wait to get a tyre changed, or your brakes fixed? No... And for that reason, you might have: ☑ AA / Breakdown Cover ☑ Warranty 🛠 Regular Servicing But our health seems to be something different. The latest stats from Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) has warned of an “impending crisis” in the cancer workforce, with a “staggering” 30% shortfall in radiologists and 15% shortfall in clinical oncologists. The report, based on responses from senior managers at 60 specialist cancer centres in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland featured on the BBC Health News section stated: 🔷 Managers at 47% of sites said patients needing chemotherapy and other cancer drugs were facing delays “most weeks or every week”, up from reports of delays at 28% of sites the previous year. 🔷 Centres reporting weekly delays to radiotherapy also nearly doubled, from 22% in 2022 to 43% in 2023. 😣 Almost all clinical directors surveyed said workforce shortages were causing backlogs. “𝑾𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒚 𝒅𝒐 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒅𝒐𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒖𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒔𝒂𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒚, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒎 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒏 𝒂𝒔 𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒔 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑵𝑯𝑺,” said RCR president Dr Katharine Halliday.
