FEEDBACK! It's a challenge - at least for me - that when I give a virtual talk, I don't always get much feedback about how it "landed." My CTA is to ask for an application of the learning with 1 of 2 actions (primarily on LinkedIn) in the next 24 hours. And I did that last evening when I finished the talk for the Public Health Career Club at PH SPOT on "Not Networking - Engaging Instead." You can imagine my surprise - and ELATION - when I finished a quick bite of a late supper less than 2 hours later to find a message from Linda Setiawan with this wonderful feedback: "I appreciate your advice to approach networking with a mindset of "engaging" in a way that adds to the conversation." AND - she had already written a post!! And she is now working on her banner and her "About" section to increase her visibility. #PomPomsToYou, Linda, for moving forward with the actions so quickly - and for moving your intentions into RESULTS!
May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month! I joined my colleagues at the Therapeutics Development Network, Seattle Children's last Sunday to walk for a cure. Great initiative by Rochelle delos Santos leading Team Ramsey's Racers! Seattle Great Strides raised ~$160,000 to advance medical and scientific progress. I’m thrilled to work with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation towards our mission: a cure for every person with CF!

.. Winning off the field .. Instead of running onto the field with his teammates, he brought flowers to his grandma who is fighting cancer. The cheering of those we treasure makes us interested in the game. Awesome display of values! Of well raising! It’s hard to do that in front of "the tough guys". It’s hard for Grandma to sit on bleachers for her grandson while fighting cancer. Good on him for recognizing her effort. Why do we only value one another at the end? To give a flower at the right time is better than giving all of you after it’s too late. To say something nice at the right time is better than writing a poem after time runs out .. after feelings fade away. To be human when needed is better than to offer sympathies or condolences belatedly. There is no solace in late actions .. like an apology kiss on a cold forehead .. it’s fate’s last word ... not our human calculate .. “for hopes just to spectate” Don’t postpone beautiful things and moments .. they may never come again.. like unseen passing bubbles. Time and attention, the most beautiful and valuable thing we can give our loved ones… never deny them company when we are the only witnesses to their human weakness. We only age when we no longer accumulate happy memories .. when days never change .. when stories run out .. only gain chewed hours and aches. Only if .. reality and dreams exchange. When the game is over .. it’s over.

In a world where challenges loom large, the power of collective resilience shines brighter than ever. The recent Dolphins Challenge Cancer event is a prime example of this strength, rallying 6,702 individuals to raise an impressive $12 million. This huge effort beat last year's amount and reached the target of $75 million for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center earlier than expected! It's incredible to witness such a phenomenal success. It is a testament to the unstoppable spirit of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium leadership and each participant who turned adversity into victory together. Their collective resilience has powered a movement that's met one of the most ambitious donation goals in sports history, showing the world what's possible when we unite for a common cause. "One team. One fight." The resilience, unity, and strength displayed are truly inspiring. Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., put it well when he said, "Thanks to the unwavering support from the South Florida community and our amazing partnership with the Miami Dolphins, we've been able to achieve so much at Sylvester, pushing the boundaries of cancer research." When you focus your efforts on a goal, you're bound to succeed. Well done, Miami Dolphins! This event has made a real impact in the fight to save lives. #Community #Resilience #Teamwork #MiamiDolphins #CancerResearch

🎉 To celebrate StacheStrong turning 6 (yesterday), we launched a BRAND NEW WEBSITE to showcase all we’ve accomplished and been through. Check it out at StacheStrong.org and read below for more on reaching 6 years. 🤯 I still remember submitting the documents to incorporate a 501(c)3 with GJ in 2018 with no clue what we were doing. All that mattered was that we were going to flip the script on this disease and help others in any way we could – together. 📈In 6 years since that point, we’ve funded over $4,000,000 of brain cancer research, including 40+ grants at 25+ institutions across the country. 💻 We’ve provided a platform for thousands as we’ve continued to inspire and provide hope. We’ve even helped patients/families navigate this disease, both medically and emotionally. 👨🏻🦱 It all started with my brother keeping the mood light by going into brain surgery with a fresh mustache. Something so simple is changing lives EVERY day. That’s who GJ was – and continues to be – through StacheStrong. 💪🏻 Reaching 6 years as an org is 3x longer than GJ lived with GBM, which almost seems impossible. We’ve been running full speed ahead since starting StacheStrong and have far exceeded anyone’s wildest expectations along the way. Throughout it all, I’m most proud of the fact that we’ve stayed true to our roots of raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research. That’s what GJ did – and continues to do – through StacheStrong. 👨👩👧👦 95%+ of those diagnosed with this disease will never get to live as long after being diagnosed with GBM as StacheStrong has been incorporated. That. Has. To Change. The grants, advocacy, events, and support are the lifeblood of what StacheStrong is, but to me, there’s nothing more important than the community we’ve created. We’ve met countless people/families facing the same diagnosis that we once walked through, and their stories have become forever intertwined with StacheStrong. In fact, this has now become THEIR story, just as much as it is ours. That’s what GJ built – and continues to build – through StacheStrong. 🧍🏼♂️🧍🏻♂️One day, I hope a set of brothers have an answer and a viable treatment through the collaborative efforts of all those fighting for change. That’s what GJ fought for – and continues to fight for – through StacheStrong.

Congratulations to Cancer Council on their record-breaking results for March Charge 2024. It was great to see nearly 17,000 Australians charging 804,068 kms and raising an incredible $2.75m. Even more impressive when many P2P campaigns are experiencing year-on-year declines. It shows the importance of constantly trying new things. Here are some highlights: 1. A more diverse and comprehensive content-led acquisition strategy: More content and variations than ever, including a greater variety of channels. 2. Quality over quantity: The acquisition strategy went to great lengths to acquire participants who were genuinely committed to the cause, not just the incentives. 3. Dynamic scaling: When we can see it performing well, invest more. 4. Innovative engagement tactics: A raft of new initiatives were introduced on the website. Congratulations to Tiana Takchi, Lauren Clarke, Kelly Carr, Joshua McNeil, Michael Wilson, Emily Dougan, Danielle A. and Jennifer Wu for all of your hard work on this!

The loss of Tim Wakefield over the weekend really hit hard. ⚾ 😢 How do you go from not feeling well a few weeks ago, seeing a doctor, being diagnosed with brain cancer, going in for emergency surgery, and then dying? At the age of 57, with 2 kids in college, and your wife is also battling cancer?!?! Life doesn't seem fair some days. Especially to such a wonderful person, such a giving person, such a good guy as Tim Wakefield. If you didn't know Tim Wakefield - he was a Red Sox legend, master knuckleballer (a pitch no one currently uses in MLB), and a massive advocate for The Jimmy Fund. He was also the 2003 Billy Buckner (threw the game-winning HR to Aaron f*ing Boone) - but defied the odds with the team just a year later and won the first World Series in 86 years for the Red Sox and was a part of the team to do it again in 2007. Life is short and changes in mere moments. Please take a minute to reflect when reading this and ask yourself, how can I be a bit more like Tim Wakefield? Whether it's mastering your craft like the knuckleball (for me, shout out #productmarketing) .... or giving back to the communities you love through time or money. Let's all be a little more like the legend Tim Wakefield. 🧢 If so inclined, donate to the Jimmy Fund here. https://lnkd.in/eYwWq8Sz Read more about Wakefield's craft and how we mentored others here. https://lnkd.in/eSaVjPKi #givingback #legend #masteryourcraft #productmarketing
