Progress does not begin with questioning whether a thing can or cannot be done. Anyone can convince themselves of either. Rather, progress begins with the question: "For this to happen what needs to be true" If we are thorough this question will yield a list of principles and actions that need to be tested and verified. Then we have only to go down that list and figure out how to accomplish each of those things, then prove we can do them repeatably, reliably, safely. Human learning is a beautiful miracle that has brought us from crawling, to walking, to swimming, to flying...and beyond, while horrified onlookers and naysayers cringed and trembled. And after inspiration replaces doubt and fear...and man progresses. There is no magic involved or divinity beyond a determination to accomplish a new thing built upon what we already know. By observation, trial and error, and inevitably-if we are determined, success we add to our knowledge. The world of human learning, science, and engineering.

Witnessing an aviation industry-defining technical milestone is a rare career moment that few are lucky enough to be directly part of. That moment happened recently here at BETA TECHNOLOGIES, where we are working hard to bring electric aviation to the world and turn the corner on climate change. After months of methodical buildup, our team recently executed a full-scale, piloted, transition flight profile in Plattsburgh, NY, which we believe is an industry first! Our simple and certifiable Lift + Cruise ALIA VTOL design allows engineers to optimize our propulsion efficiency for both vertical and forward flight, while also carrying over that same efficiency into our ALIA CTOL fixed-wing aircraft. Completing a piloted transition represents a leap forward toward allowing us to bring safe, certifiable, low-cost, and clean aircraft to solve cargo, logistical, defense, medical, and passenger use cases around the world. Many capabilities and even more hurdles to wrap our brains around to make this work. To work, this is the epitome of needing to break glass to make it so. Some thoughts: 1. The tech and airframes are coming or already here. The TTPs and integration are not yet. That requires iron in the air (or sim) to see what works and what makes sense. 2. The hardest part will be the TTPs. Why are we not using airframes currently casting a shadow over the Arizona desert? They have speed, relative range, payload. 3. Defining what missions will require an esquisite solution and hence corresponding budgetary guidance is needed immediately. SW alone to make this work is/will be costly. 4. More solutions is better. Winner take all contracts Will ensure we don’t meet any of our mass and multiple functionality objectives. CCAs are not the silver bullet the Air Force needs. But their path is a “solution” at a time when perfect is the enemy of good enough. And “unfielded” means zero capability.

The Power of Minuscule Shifts: A Lesson from Airplanes! Have you ever realized how tiny adjustments can make a tremendous difference in our journeys? Let me share an analogy that blew my mind: airplanes and their pilots. Imagine taking off on a flight where the pilot continuously makes minuscule course corrections. At first, these adjustments may seem inconsequential, mere millimeters here and there. But you wouldn't believe the impact they have! By the end of the journey, hundreds of miles can separate the intended destination from where they would land without those meticulous shifts. It's mind-boggling! Here's the lesson: those small shifts early on pave the way for entirely different possibilities and opportunities. They set us on paths we never anticipated, opening doors we didn't even know existed. For our lives and businesses, the principle remains the same. Even a humble adjustment to our routines or mindset can yield groundbreaking results. I can vouch for it! A minor change in my approach to relationships transformed my connections with others, expanding my professional network exponentially. Has a small shift sparked big changes in your productivity?
