What level should we hire a Founding Product Designer? In my experience, I've seen a higher rate of success when the company commits to hiring a Snr (and beyond) Level Designer. That Seniority of experience brings expertise primarily in the form of speed. They are faster, they know the way through (because they've navigated failures already) and they are able to get Your Product to market and to Customers faster and more effectively than a less experienced Designer. When growing and scaling is key to your businesses success, it's a huge value add to bring in the experience levels you need. It'll be far more worth it - I've seen it, many times! #designhiring #foundingdesigner

🛋️ Design wisdom: Established designers know that reputation is built over years of collaboration with trusted product representatives. This partnership not only saves time in the sourcing process but also ensures that specialists are involved in every aspect of the work. 🤝💼 Did you know that hiring a designer also means that a full team of specialists come with them? #DesignPartnerships #TrustedReputation #CollaborationSuccess @abbrio_kitchen_bath

Suggestion take/edit/toss. When responding to job postings, like Ed's below, unless you have a relationship with the author, it is not recommended to ask them to look at your LI profile and get in touch. Instead, try one of the following responses, or use the basic formula below. "Thanks for sharing this opportunity, Ed, looks interesting! I just applied. Look forward to hearing from Marriott." OR "Thanks for sharing this opportunity, Ed, looks interesting! I just applied. I just helped launched two hospitality brands that increased reservations by 40%. I hope to talk with you or the recruiter." OR "Thanks for sharing this opportunity, Ed, looks interesting! I just applied. I'd be thrilled to work at <company>, and have examples of how I can help. I'm happy to chat, or connect with the recruiter managing the req." OR Ed, the position looks great, I just applied. Sending you a DM* to share some of my work. Thanks for sharing this! *In the DM ask if there's anyone in Recruiting, or if they'd like to talk directly with you. Formula - Thank them for sharing the job. - Advise them that you applied to the job. - Share a recent "result," or offer to share examples of your work that ties to the job. - Ask about the communication process and how it's best to proceed. Or, you can leave this out, ask in a DM, follow up with the company, directly. Good luck! P.S. Please share what's worked for you. You could help other job seekers. #jobseeker #productdesign

Product Design Leader | Ex-BCG | Digital & AI/GenAI Transformation | Research | Designing Enterprise Software & Products
I'll add a couple to the list: ✅ They have the ability to lead through ambiguity and uncertainty ✅ They build strong relationships with cross-functional partners and business stakeholders
5 things I found about hiring top designers: ❌ They need to be the "best" designer in the room ✅ They understand shipping product is a team game ❌ They sit in their ivory tower and demand respect ✅ They can flip conversations to demonstrate ROI ❌ Struggle to align design success to how the biz views success. ✅ Strong business literacy + can prove how design influences. ❌ They have an updated portfolio, always. ✅ They show shipped work, raw files etc. ❌ They conform, are passive, and embrace uniformity. ✅ They embrace who they are, unapologetically. The best people I've hired remain loyal to their personal beliefs and get inspiration from multiple areas of their life and work. P.S What would you say are the traits of the top designers?

People get this backward. They say hiring a designer is "costly". Do you know what's costly? - Customers not satisfied. - Not solving people's problems. - Designing without research. - Unusable product. - Becoming redundant. Make that hire. And let them surprise you. . . #designer #hiring #research #research #people

I'm really sorry for all the junior designers who have to deal with these job openings while just starting their career. Some excerpts from the list of expectations : - Minimum 2 years of experience in high viability consumer apps - Do everything design-related: from appstore screenshots to conducting research, designing user flows etc - Autonomous management of your design process from idea to execution - Handling multiple complex projects at the same time at the fast pace - Portfolio exhibiting great visual design execution - Stakeholders management/presentation skills Am I missing something or seems like these days everyone wants a senior person for a price of a part-time student? I know designers with 15 years of experience who's bad in half of those things and still considered great team members and talented pros.
⚠️ We're on the lookout for a junior designer to join our product team ⚠️ This is an ideal role for someone with a few years of B2C/social product design experience. Our small but highly experienced product team offers a unique opportunity to work on features that reach millions of people every day, while being part of an awesome team to learn from. Check out the link for more details. ⚠️ #designjobs #productdesign #juniorposition

"Employers lack Imagination when it comes to hiring Designers." - Incredible sentiment I discussed yesterday with a Product Designer that is summing up this year and the current Design Hiring Market. Hiring Designers right now is; - Like for Like, you have to have done the job to get the job - Must be loud and obvious that your portfolio is exactly the work they are hiring you to do - Every Design hire is a highly critical decision and Designers must be a 10 out of 10 fit - Designers must be able to do more with less - Designers need to have skill stacked at least 4+ niches of Design expertise. Is Great Design no longer actually Great Design?
