Last week, I posted a big thank you to the >500 participants that joined us in Barcelona on June 26-27 to make of Amazon Fast Forward 2024 a great success. But if you wonder what it takes to organize such an event at scale (beyond an engaged carrier and partner base), the answer lies in having a committed and energetic team always driven to go the extra mile. So in turn a heartfelt thank you to our presenters, content creators, event coordinators, business coaches, carrier managers and our BCN1 hosts.

If I’ve learned one thing from recent dinners we’ve hosted for supply chain and logistics leaders, it’s this: Operators are super eager to connect with one another. So often, this group is looking for validation that whatever complicated process they had to duck tape together makes sense and that there’s not a “better” way to do it. Connecting with others in the field validates just how challenging the problems they’re solving are. I’ve seen absolute magic happen when operators get together, from both a professional and a personal standpoint. Like in LA: FLY BY JING’s COO Matt Dunaj and Avon Ray, VP of Global Supply Chain at Jacques Marie Mage, didn’t only bond over supply chain, they also realized they have identical taste in music and both play some pretty niche instruments. They even coordinated a jam sesh to record together (would love an update on that btw…) These events are going so well—we’re definitely going to be doing more. And since we’ve had great demand to join, we’re also having a happy hour for operators in NYC this Thursday. If you’re around and want to come, I’ll be hosting a panel discussion, and we’ll be joined by over 50 other people in the space from companies like Flexport, Brooklinen, and Uber Freight. Link in comments if you want to register, or feel free to reach out and I'll add you to the list.

Coaching mid to senior SDE, EM in cracking FAANG+ behavioural interviews in 1 hour >> DM me “COACH” | Engineering Manager @ Amazon | Engineering Career Coach
I lead the festival sales of internet’s 7th most used page. Here are my 4 learnings.. ... .. . In 2021, my team owned the product details page of Amazon worldwide. I was responsible for an uneventful (no issues) #Amazon Great Indian festival, and Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. Here is my boring one line summary of how to run an online event of that scale with billions of pages views. 🎯 Preparation, preparation, and preparation. The more flashier and successful a sale is on the website, more preparation it needs at the backend. So if you are planning to run one, here is my 4 point advice. 1️⃣ Prepare for knowns: Knowns are things that you know from the historical patterns, e.g. what is your typical TPS (Transaction per second) or a regular day, what was your TPS in past for similar events, if this is not your first one. If you have historical data from previous events, then you can also think of using volume prediction systems. 2️⃣ Prepare for unknowns: Unknown are things, which will surprise you when they happen. Think what all could go wrong in an event of this scale. Remember every second of downtime may cost millions of dollars. Brainstorm if you have any single point of failures in the system, if your answer is don't know or no, then do what Netflix popularised, that is chaos testing. Bring down systems randomly and see how customer experience is effected due to this. 3️⃣ Do a mock run: Why? For the same reason why you do it before going for an actual interview. See how systems, processes, and humans behave in a stressed situation like this. 4️⃣ Have fun & make history: Preparation for this type of event is stressful. So if you don't have fun (define what it means for you and your team), chances of burnouts are real. So enjoy the process and make it an uneventful event. PS: Is there anything else you would like to add? #CareerDevelopment #SystemDesign #SoftwareEngineering
