Benjamin Mena’s Post

Some companies use NON-COMPETES as WEAPONS to try to DESTROY SOMEONE's LIFE. You have to listen to the full story with Sarah Englade.  She got fired and then had to move hundreds of miles away from her home because of a non compete.  Even with that her previous company. (Her previous manager and team) constantly used the non-compete at every moment they could to harass her. Fast forward to after she worked through her non compete and after a covid layoff.  She started her own recruiting company. Took her 6 months to get her first placement. But the next year and a half she billed about $1.6 Million.  She has taken the lessons she learned from her first company and turned that into the leader and the company that she would have wanted to work at. #BringIt! I was always suspicious of managers who wanted to enforce a non-compete. To me it was saying, "I think this person will leave after they work for me for a period of time so let's prevent them from being able to work somewhere else." Here's an idea, create such an incredible work environment and product suite so you best performers have NO DESIRE to leave.

This isn't the first time I've heard of this especially in the staffing agency world. I had a good friend gets terminated and companies were afraid to hire him because of his non-compete.

Great interview as always. I loved Sarah’s no-BS approach when it comes to working with clients. Seems like she’s not afraid to turn down business if it doesn’t align with her terms.

After an employee is let go, the non-compete clause should be deemed null and void

Limited non-competes (geographically, time, non-solicits) are legit and, in many cases where employees have access to confidential or proprietary information, completely rational. But overly broad ones that essentially preclude someone from getting another job can often be outrageous.

Wow, Sarah Englade's journey is both shocking and inspiring! 😱 Non-competes can really throw a wrench in someone's career path, huh? It's awesome to see her not just bounce back but kill it by building her own company from scratch. Goes to show, no matter how tough things get, there's always a way out if you're willing to fight for it. 🚀
