💸🏨 HOSPITAL WARS: SCOOPING UP LANDS 🏨💸 Hospitals are looking to expand into growing demographic areas with a good payor mix. A case last year put this competition squarely in the spotlight. That's when Phoenix-based Banner Health, the state's largest health system and among the largest in the nation, wanted to build a 48-acre hospital campus in Scottsdale, which has long been Scottsdale-based HonorHealth's service area. In November, when Banner Health's CFO Dennis Laraway went to secure that parcel in an Arizona State Land Department auction, Todd LaPorte, CEO of HonorHealth, was there to stop him. The minimum bid of $56.95 million quickly escalated up to $84 million, with HonorHealth's LaPorte emerging as the winning bidder. HonorHealth didn't bid on the north Scottsdale land at the northeast corner of Hayden Road and Loop 101, though, with the intent of building a hospital there. It was to prevent Banner Health from doing so. #turfwars #healthcare #marketshare #hospital #ericcook
